Windows 10: Windows10 updates esp. to version 1909 crashes laptop, at exactly the same place

I experience constant challenges when attempting windows updates. Firstly my disk utilisation jumps to 95-100% and if I manage to get past that, the CPU utilisation too then jumps to 90-100%. Consequently the fan goes beserk and the laptop then shuts down/crashes.

I shut everything other app down in Task Manager to dedicate all resources to the Windows updates, with varying degrees of success.

Now a notification has been received, warning that my version of Windows 10, viz 1803, is out of support and that I must update to version 1909. Dutifully downloaded version 1909 and have made several attempts to install, but alas even my Task Manager app shutdown method is failing dismally. During the validation of the download, the disk utilisation starts to cook 95-100% and once Windows 10 Update Assistant fires up and the installation starts, disk utilisation drops but CPU utilisation boils over to 99-100%. At exactly 13% of the installation getting your updates ready the laptop shuts down/crashes. No other apps are running – using Task Manager, disk utilisation reduced to 0% and CPU to approx. 3%, memory to 22% - all resources dedicated to the windows update!

My laptop is not short of resource. Might be an old laptop but plenty of resource available – Intel R Core TM i3 processor, 2.53Ghz, 64bit. 6GB of RAM. 464 GB HD.

I am stuck. At exactly 13% it crashes. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

User.000 issue after updating to 1909

I'm one of the many people suffering from issues with user profiles after applying Update 1909 to Windows 10. I've read all the threads I can find on the topic here and have followed the suggestions, all to no avail. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

After applying Update 1909, the ProfileImagePath was changed to c:\users\User.000
One file that was always in use and couldn't be removed was left in c:\users\User (can't recall or find the exact file now), so I could never rename or remove the c:\user\User directory.

I followed the multiple suggestions from Brink and others:

• Rebooted at least 6 times
• Enabled hidden Administrator
• Booted into Safe Mode
• Changed ProfileImagePath
• Tried to rename c:\users\User but couldn't because a file was still in use
• Copied all data from c:\users\User.000 into c:\users\User
• Rebooted and had temporary profile
• Followed steps in Brink tutorial to change ImageProfilePath; rebooted with no change
• Restored using Restore Point from before Update 1909 - returned to single profile state (User.000)
• Removed each update that was installed individually and rebooted after each update removal - profile state never changed
• After all updates were removed, repeated the steps above with hidden Administrator, changing profile, etc. - same issue with file in use in c:\users\User
• Followed all steps above with hidden Administrator but without copying files from User.000 to User - same results

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
