Windows 10: Windows10, USB ports stop working, getting USB xHCI Compliant Host controller error code 10

Hello,


since a couple days my laptop's USB ports are not working anymore.

i get the infamous error code 10 on the USB drivers in device manager as seen in screenshot.



laptop is:



what i tried:

• uninstalling driver and let Windows reinstall it after a reboot
• manually reinstalling the driver.
• using driver installerdriver booster, driver hub with no success. still had the error after driver got installed.
• Driver Booster gave me the error code also. when i tried to let the software fix it. it failed to do so.
• let the intel driver assistant reinstall the driver, but this failed

last resort attempts i can try but didn't work for others: complete clean install of Windows/repair tool.

Windows10 USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller code 10

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. All USB ports worked fine a week ago. This problem happened when the computer reboot by itself after I plugged in a USB 3.0 drive. The drive worked with this laptop a week ago.

Now when I tried to update driver by browse my computer, and select Let me Pick, and then the laptop tried to install the driver but failed. It says "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" and "Windows found a driver
software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it" and "USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller --> this device cannot start. (Code 10)." I am not sure if this points to a hardware issue or not.

For my computer, in Device Manger, under Universal Serial Bus controllers, there's only one item named 'USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller" which has the problem. There are no USB 2.0 Host or USB Hub that I may uninstall. I did not check what was under 'Universal
Serial Bus controllers" before I had the problem.

Any more advice is highly appreciated.

 

code 10 for USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller after exhausting known fixes

My usb ports have "suddenly" stopped responding. After all diagnostics, etc., discovered a code 10 for USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. Uninstall, reinstall, driver update checks still results in the same message. No add-ons to Class (upper or lower).
Still getting a code 10. Any suggestions, please?? Windows 10. HP Envy x360.

Troubleshooting shows all is supposedly working.

Windows10 USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller code 10

Hello,

I bought a Lenovo laptop ideapad FLEX 4 about a month ago. It worked fine until yesterday when all USB ports (two USB3.0 and one USB2.0) stopped working. It happed after the laptop had a reboot when I plugged in a USB 3.0 drive.

I checked the Device Manager and found the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller had a problem -- this device cannot start (Code 10). I tried the followings but none of them worked. Very frustrated and hope anyone can help me out!

1. Re-booting the laptop did not help

2. Tried to Uninstall the Driver and then re-boot the laptop, did not work.

3. Clicked Update Driver, it just says the driver software is up to date.

4. Tried run troubleshooting in Win10, and then troubleshooting Hardware, it clearly shows 'Reinstall device driver, There is a problem with the driver for USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. Reinstalling the driver might fix this problem'. Then I clicked
on 'Apply this fix' it searched for device driver, and completed troubleshooting but said 'Problems found -- USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller has a driver problem Not fixed'

5. I went to Lenovo Support Center on line and checked my laptop by their on-line system. The online system has not found this USB driver problem.

6. In the end, I tried recovery the whole laptop. It removed everything of the laptop and re-installed the whole systems from a hidden hard drive. After that, I still saw this USB Host problem with code 10, with an old version driver of year 2015.

7. After updating Windows 10, it showed the same driver I saw when the problem first appeared. The driver version is 10.0.14393.0 provided by Microsoft, dated 7/15/2016.

The problem seems a driver issue, but I ended up with no solution.

Please kindly suggest if this is a hardware issue or a driver issue. If it is a driver problem how can I fix it.
