Windows 10: Windows11 File Explorer automatically search not navigating.

If I change the keyword half way through the search, it will just restart the search. It use

Sorry Martin but did you read my first post?

I am NOT entering any thing into the search box, I am selecting a file/folder in the main panel (not the search) but Windows is automatically entering the letter I type into the search box.

This behaviour is what I am trying to stop.

I am trying to do what you suggest and what I am trying to get back, but Windows (the new Enterprise version we have here at work) does the bad behaviour (by design as per reply above!) when I dont want it to

Thanks for the update, Dean. Here's what we can suggest you to do. Follow these steps:

• Press Windows key on your keyboard, and then type regedit
  then right-click and then Run as Administrator.
• Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search (change value data as
  1).
• Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE >Microsoft >Windows > CurrentVersion >Search.
• Change the BingSearchEnabled value from 1 to
  0. Make sure all of the Cortana flags
  are set to 0 instead of 1.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully.

Anyway I have found a solution

Open a File Explorer window.

View tab, Options.

Change folder and search options

View tab

scroll down to the bottom

"When typing into list view" group

Check "Select the type item in the view" - i.e. change from the "Automatically type into the Search Box"

Apply

the Autosearch should now stop
