I have exactly the same issue as reported on this posthttps://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-save-disk-space-from-windowsapps-folder/9b1ff96c-eacb-4efa-a891-759e4fbc4b93All files contained into WindowsApps folder have 0 kb as size but using SpaceMonger, are seen as 8 GB for each file for a total a 128 GB of file. I managed to delete 7 of them without modifying any access rights which were copies of already existing files in subfolder of this folder and it diminished the free space available by 56 GB. I understand the answer provided by the advisor that the file are not

File Explorer shows wrong folder size

I think the issue is solved. The problem of File Explorer Properties showing greatly reduced folder size was present in my Documents folder and my two most used folders under Documents. Looking at the TLPD results I noticed that along with the 17,000 results from the folders "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and "C:\Users\[me]\AppData", there were about 4 results from each of these two most used folders. I went to those files in the first folder and shortened the names to well below 255 characters. Then File Explorer Properties showed the correct folder size (that is to say the same size as Tree Size Free shows), but Documents folder size was still wrong. Then I went to the second of these two folders and carefully did the same fix. Now File Explorer Properties folder size is correct for this folder and is correct for Documents.

Documents and both of these folders are present in my Quick access. Before this fix, I noticed that if I checked folder size in File Explorer, I got the wrong size whether I used the left pane under Quick access, or the right pane; but if I hovered over the folder in question in the right pane, the pop-up showed the correct size. I don't know if either of these are pertinent to the original problem.

Strangely, the wrong folder size problem never appeared in the two folders for which TLPD returned 99% of it's results: "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and "C:\Users\[me]\AppData". File Explorer Properties and Tree Size Free always agreed.

So I guess that if you want your File Explorer Properties to work correctly, you must run TLPD occasionally and rename any long file names under Documents; or carefully avoid long names.

Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem or an easier fix would be appreciated.

    Thanks for everybody's help.

  3. Window 10 gives wrong folder size

    If you are a
    Windows 10
user then you might experience the issue with the Windows folder sizes. For example, if you have a folder with 100 GB of

    data
and you check its size via the properties then you might see a wrong size there. It will most likely be a random number and it can be a bigger or smaller number than the actual size. Some users saw the folder size of 4TB as well. If you rename the
folder then the size will change but it still won’t be the correct size. This incorrect folder size problem isn’t specific to a certain drive or certain types of folders. Any folder can be affected by this incorrect folder size issue.

    The problem is with the
    Windows
    10. This is a known bug in the
    Windows 10
that was introduced in one of the latest Windows Updates. This bug prevents the File Explorer to read the metadata of a file correctly. This is what leads to this unexpected file sizes. That’s why you might also notice that your drive size isn’t
correct either. The good thing about it being introduced by a Windows Update is that Microsoft will most likely release a fix in the next couple of updates. But if you don’t want to wait till the updates you can simply follow the steps given in the

    methods
below. There is a way to actually look at the correct file sizes on
    Windows
    10.

    Method 1: Use TreeSize
TreeSize is a third party application that can help you get the correct sizes of your files and drives. It is a graphical manager for hard drive space. This tool comes with a free trial as well so you don’t
have to spend anything on it. The free trial should be more than enough for you.

    1. Click here and select the appropriate region
    2. Click Next
    3. Run the setup file once it is downloaded
    4. Everything should be self-explanatory. Simply install the software
    5. Once installed, open TreeSize
    6. You should see a File Explorer like window. It will automatically scan your drive and show you the folder sizes.

    1. If you want to look at other drives then click Select Directory and select your desired drive

    1. TreeSize will automatically scan the selected drive as well
    That’s it. You can use
    TreeSize
to have a look at the correct sizes. You can use this tool until you get a new Windows Update. So, keep checking for the latest

    Windows Updates

    wrong folder size

I use a surface pro and moved some work files from my desktop which I know to be over 10gb to my surface which now insists the folder is 905 mb and 603 files which I know is wrong. The folder has several sub folders one of which is over 10gb by itself. if
you check the folders individually the size is credible but selecting all the folders and the reported file size is less than the largest folder alone by a big margin.

my pc just updated to build 1803 and in see others have the same issues - come on Microsoft lets get the basics right!
