Windows 10: WinRE stuck to primary partition?

Hi guys,I was having the 0x80070643 error with windows update and had previously successfully followed the instructions here https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf to resize the WinRE partition on another computer and have the update succeed.I was trying to do this on my laptop and I had issues at the last step where WinRE was not found and the Winre.wim file was missing. I successfully obtained this from an iso and placed it in system32/recovery and when i ran reag

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

Failure to apply update due to recovery partition issue?

My suggestion would be to:

1) Disable WinRE

2) Delete partitions 4 and 5.

3) Extend the C drive to utilize the unallocated space (minus 750 MB)

4) Create a Recovery partition in that 750 MB unallocated space.

Step 1:

To disable WinRE, run:

• reagentc /disable
  

Next, check if winre.wim has been moved to the c:\windows\system32\Recovery folder. To do so, run:

• dir c:\windows\system32\Recovery /a
  

Please post the outputs.

 

WinRE Reset Image Path

1) There won't be any issues.

2) You may leave it as it is. However, there is a slight disadvantage to having WinRE in the OS partition. If the OS partition becomes corrupt (though it's a rare possibility), WinRE may not load.

I can post the instructions if you want WinRE in a separate partition.
