  1. WinUpdate KB4022405 Messes Up Desktop, Slows Performance

    Hi folks,

All was fine until this bear was installed: 2017-06 Update for Windows 10 Version 1703.

Shortcut Arrows appeared on left monitor, not on right. Fixed with WinAero.
Icons reduced in size on right monitor, not on left. Fixed with WinAero.
Icon fonts changed from Arial to unnamed font on both monitors. Fixed with WinAero.
Can't seem to fix these irksome problems:

1--Icon locations loused up on both monitors. When I move an Icon to my desired position, sometimes it stays there. Other times it bounces to a totally new location. Moving more than one Icon simultaneously sometimes gets one of them right, the others not, but not always.

2--Programs I frequently use now take much longer to load. So does accessing common WWW sites. They all work, but at snail's pace.

Not being tech savvy, I'm flustered. Is there something like WinAero that can resolve these vexations?

    :)

WIN10 startup slow BLack screen after windows logo for a long time and then I can sign in and everything seems normal. It seems sometimes it will show desktop and mouse cursor but is unresponsive.

I have tried all the fixes turning off ULPS doesn't work updating all the drivers using winupdate etc. I would attempt a BIOS update but HP doesnt have any drivers it just refers me to winupdate!

coming out of sleep mode get black screen and computer shuts down

I have all drivers updated. Removed McAfee Antivirus because it slowed the computer to a crawl. It's a desktop. I am wondering if MCAfee messed up the registry, but then I have seen recent Microsoft updates recently?

  5. Yes, of course, sensible actions...but they don't help.

My weekly regimen includes Malware Bytes, Avast Cleanup, PCTools Clean, Piriform CCleaner, Super AntiSpyware. I also have Diskeeper 16 automatically defragging. Additionally, I manually remove many log, bkp, and other outdated or duplicated files.
But...I'm still left with the same problems. And, what really irks me, is that I do not have these woes on my backup computer which has the same update. Naturally, the problems are on my main machine!

  6. Maybe you are cleaning too much and too often. PCTools does not support 10 and Avast Cleanup might cause issues as well, it disables TrkWks service, which is essential for properly working NTFS file system.

SuperAntiSpyware is not, what it used to be, you can replace it with Emsisoft Portable or Zemana.

Check out WiseCare365 and DriverEasy. WC.bat for cleaning might also interest you.

  7. Thank you for the clean-up suggestions. FYI, TenForums came back with this error message on WC.bat:

So, I guess I won't touch that one. WiseCare365, according to CNET, is mainly for mobile devices but this is a desktop, and DriverEasy is an update service for drivers. Neither of them seem to address the issues I have. Correct me, please, if I'm wrong. A search for Emsisoft Portable did not yield any results via CNET. Zemana appears to be an anti-key-logger which is a good idea for some folks, but does not address my issues.

  9. THANK YOU.

Ok on Wise Clean. Tried it. Simple enough, even for me.
On DriverEasy, maybe an idea for the future. Since horrid experiences updating drivers with nVidia and Epson, I now only update drivers if they don't work.

But, even though I applaud your patience with me, I have to say that neither of these two suggestions -- while good for periodic cleaning -- address the two issues that I noted with my original post in this thread.

1 -- Icons do not remain where I move them. Especially when restarting.

2 -- Programs that load very fast on my backup computer with the same Win updates load very slow on my main computer with latest update.

  10. For others who may face similar problems...

On #1, icons jumping to different locations: I have found the issue. WinUpdate KB4022405 changed horiz & vert distances between icons from I had previously, causing icons and their titles to occupy more desktop space. I changed most titles to a single line, especially those closest to the task bar, and via WinAero reset distances between icons. Bingo...windows behaved again.

But on #2, I do NOT have a resolution. The problem still is: my main computer loads ALL programs slower than my backup computer, even after being sure that Power is set to High, making sure that the start-up folder is bare bones, and eliminating auto-checking for updates. I have done: CC, MalwareBytes, SuperAnti Spyware, Avast, and Wise Clean. The problem still remains. Libre Office Calc, for instance, loads slower on the Main computer than on the Backup. Same newly re-installed version. DOES ANYONE HAVE A RECOMMENDATION? I'd be delighted to learn. Thank you.

  13. WinUpdate KB4022405 Messes Up Desktop, Slows Performance

Thank you for your suggestion...but I have some good news.

On July 14, KB4022405 was installed and created the problems cited above.
On August 4, last night, KB4032188 was installed and solved those problems.

I'll cross my fingers and toes that the corrections in KB4032188 will continue through future update nightmares.
