Recently, I wanted to toss my computer and found an old hp compaq 511 with winxp, 2gb ram, just installed win10 32 bit, and it became 1gb ramwhat should I do?

This computer is not for office use, just for fun, please don’t mention suggestions like "return xp" or "reinstall the system"

    Netbook, 64-bit or 32-bit?

The only real test would be trying 32 bit Windows 10 and seeing if it ends up being faster in practice [a test that would take quite a bit of your limited time].

I get the impression that you are aware that
2GB RAM are required for the 64 bit version
whereas a minimum of 1GB is required for the 32 bit version. So your choice is between

    • getting the benefit of 64 bit processing but limited by the invalid RAM size, or
    • foregoing the 64 bit processing benefit in order to fulfil the minimum RAM requirement.

    64 bit to 32 bit

Yes, it can be done but you'd have to do a fully-clean install of the 32-bit version. Same would apply if going from 32-bit to 64-bit. Be sure to do a backup copying of any data you don't want to lose to another drive, anything that exists nowhere else. Programs will have to be reinstalled from disc or download.

The 64-bit version of Windows only requires 2GB RAM but works much better with 4GB while the 32-bit version only requires 1GB but works much better with more but may show only about 3.5GB out of 4GB, not a performance problem as I've successfully done so. I don't worry too much about how much RAM Windows uses as long as it works, it's when programs start crashing that one should investigate why.

    Dual Boot Win10 64 bit and Win10 32 bit

When I originally installed Win10 I installed the 32 bit version. I have a blank drive, and would like to install the 64 bit version on that, creating a dual boot system.

What are the steps I need to follow? I'm reasonably intelligent but not tech savvy.
