Wipe deleted file space on USB key but NOT key

    Hope you'all can help me.

I use a usb key. When the power goes out or other erratic things. The usb key losses data. I do all the right things to exit key etc. But this happens about once a month.

Besides using backup program, I use a recovery program to get back the files. The problem with recovery programs is that they sometimes are too good and bring back files that I have deleted and other erratic data which when I restore the programs confuses me with files I want to recover.

Is there any way to wipe all the files on the key that I truely want wiped without also deleting the good files. In other words I don't want to wipe the whole USB key, rather I just want to truly clean out the files I HAVE deleted, with out those that I have not deleted.

I know I can copy the files to disk, then do a full format on the key then copy them back but this is a pain and with a 128 Gig key takes some time, like and hour to format the drive. quick format will not delete everything.

So to conclude how can delete all refrences to deleted files, so recover programs will not find them but not the files that are not deleted. Some sort of wipe empty space program, or system.

    Thanks

    :)

  2. Writing unique bootloaders to usb flash key?

    Hey TPU,
in the past ive had no trouble using the hp format utility to write boot loaders to a flash key, set the partition as active, ect.
I've recently been fiddling around with Vista boot pro to get certain Vista pe boot disks converted over to a usb key working. (trick here is to do it on a vista pc)
All has been well, but what I would like to have a bootable usb key that doesnt use an ordinary DOS/XP/Vista bootloader and I can't seem to find a way to go about doing it.
Ultimately I would like to have one of the Memtest86 cd iso's booting off one of my keys and the bootloader isn't an ordinary one.
A few ideas ive had is writing a grub bootloader to the key then writing the grub to boot the iso file saved on the key. but don't know if this will work (advice, has someone done it successfully?)
The other idea is to extract the iso to the key but then im stumped on how to get the iso9660 bootloader written from the iso to the flash key. (can't find a utility to do it, all forums related seem to fail from what ive googled so far)
If anyones got some advice or suggestions, the feedback will be apreciated *Smile Wipe deleted file space on USB key but NOT key :)

  3. Writing unique bootloaders to usb flash key?

looks like grub4dos is the way to go to load the img file, im going to give the formatting utility a go and see if it will write the .img and have me time doing this process (mainly intructions at the bottom of the page) according tho that thread you need to make it dos bootable first, then load on grub4dos then add the .img files and create a menu list. im confused as heck but if a utility wont just let me choose the .img and write it to the key ill have to give grub4dos a shot, it should let me make a key bootable with memtest on it, since thats what im after, any easy way will be greatly appreciated. thanks again guys/girls *Smile Wipe deleted file space on USB key but NOT key :)

edit: wow, i really didnt do a good enough google the first time around, straight off the memtest.org site is this:Pre-Compiled EXE file for USB Key (Pure DOS)
so with this zipped exe, all i do is use the hp format util, make it (the key) dos bootable, have the exe in the key's root, write the exe into the autoexec bat and off i am *Big Grin Wipe deleted file space on USB key but NOT key :D
awesome stuff, still would *Love  to learn more about how to write/burn an iso file to a flash key and have it bootable asif its a cd 'over usb' but for now that can wait

    Unable to delete temporary files

    Hi Sumit,

Looks like you are running out of storage space, let's walk you through the steps of running
Disc cleanup for your Windows 10 device.

To delete temporary files, kindly follow these steps:

    • Press the Windows key to launch the Start menu.
    • Type in Disc cleanup and press Enter.
    • Under Files to delete, select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
    • Select OK.

If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:

    • Press the Windows key to launch the Start menu.
    • Type in Disc cleanup and press Enter.
    • In Disk cleanup, select Clean up system files.
    • Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.
    • Select OK.

If the suggestions above didn't work, feel free to post back so we can further troubleshoot.
