Windows 10: Wired connection works on Laptop, not Desktop (Daily, Intermittent)

Howdy All,

I am having an issue with desktop work computers that will not connect to the internet via Ethernet cable.
When I test the same cable connected with my laptop, the internet works flawlessly.

The desktop issue usually only comes up once a day, and for around 30 minutes. After this time, it just magically works again. During the down time, I can still access the work intranet site and share drives, but cannot connect to external sites.

We don't have many desktops but strangely this issue has come up twice for different users in the past week (probably coincidental).

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Losing internet connection intermittently only on laptop

For us to know the reason why your laptop is losing internet connection intermittently and how to fix it, we would like to know more information:

• Have you tried updating your drivers?
• Did you receive any error messages?

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below and check if it will solve the issue:

1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

2. Select Troubleshooting.

3. Select View all on the top left corner.

4. Click on Internet Connections.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 2:

We suggest you to update the Network adapters driver from the Device Manager.

Follow the below steps:

1. Right click on Start button and click on
Device Manager.

2. Expand the
Network adapters driver from the list.

3. Right click on the driver and click on
Update driver Software.

Connect desktop to laptop wirelessly?

I have an internet connection on both my laptop and desktop through the same router. I do not wish to screw that up. All I want to do is transfer files from the desktop to the laptop via the wireless connection. How do I do this? I have never set up any kind of network or lan before.. wired or otherwise.

I have read a bunch of post on the net but I am unsure the best way to do this. it's confusing to me as there seems to be lots of different opinions.

 

Network a wndows 7 desktop with a windows 10 laptop


New to this stuff... Can someone detail what has to be done to each PC step by step so that I can share files, printer etc between the systems? The desktop has a wired connection to the router and the laptop is using wifi. Desktop is windows 7 home.
