Windows 10: Wired Ethernet Printer not connecting to PC

Hi my PC is currently running Windows 10 and my HP Officejet 5740 is connected to the router via LAN. I accidentally deleted the printer from my PC and now I can't seem to reconnect it. I'd tried to manually create a TCP/IP port, I've disabled my firewall completely, I've installed the HP scan doctor and nothing seems to work. If I directly connect the printer to my PC via ethernet it'll detect and reinstall properly.. but once I disconnect it and connect the printer back to the router, it doesn't detect or work at all. Connecting Printer to 2 Ethernet computers !

Yes, it should be possible to connect to a printer that is connected to the wireless network while the computer is connected via ethernet.

You just need to be sure that both the wireless network and the wired network are configured to be a part of the same logical network.

You may want to check the user guide for your printer. There should be a way to press a key combination on the printer or go through a menu to print a status page. You want to be sure that the printer is connecting to your network successfully.

Once that is done, you should be able to go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners. If your printer does not show up in the list already, you should be able to select "Add a printer or scanner" to add that printer to the list.

EDIT: I should note that this is exactly how my older Brother printer is connected. It is connected using WiFi and my machines that use WiFi as well as those that use Ethernet can access it.

 

Unable to print to a network printer when connected to both wireless and wired networks

Hi Eileen,

• As far as i'm aware nothing has changed
• i have only tried to send test pages to the network printer so im assuming so yes
• wireless printer works fine when connected to both networks. However the wifi doesn't connect auto when an Ethernet connection is established this has to be manually connected.

I have tried the following:

• updated the print driver
• changed the network port it was plugged into
• ran windows updates
• configured with a static
• changed the wifi and Ethernet priority

I will run through the trouble shoot steps as suggest and come back to you.

FYI - he has a number of extenders dotted around, a collegue mentioned it could be a subnet issue?

With the manual TCP/IP port I created (via details from the printer) it still errors. I have the IP of my printer, and when I put it into my browser it doesn't load.

Also, my wife's PC on the same network prints perfectly fine without issue. This seems to indicate it's a firewall issue? But I've disabled it..

I've powered cycled both devices multiple times. Please advise!
