WLAN Disabled randomly at login screen after W10 Fall Creators Update

    Greetings everyone:

Running Windows 10 Home x64. I noticed ever since Windows 10 Fall Creators Update has been installed, when the system is powered up at the login lock screen, either the WiFi will be enabled and work normally or it will be disabled and when I click on WiFi, the WiFi toggle will be completely greyed out. I am using the Intel AC7260 Mini-PCIe combo 802.11ac + Bluetooth adapter and have already tried replacing it with another identical adapter with the same results. I have tried a in-place install and the results still are the same, how do I find out what is causing it because it seems like depending on my luck, the WiFi will get enabled on it's own or not. So even if I logged in, I cannot turn the WiFi back on either as I do not have a physical WiFi on/off switch on my ASUS G74SX-3DE Notebook either. What I do notice is that whenever the WiFi is disabled, it will always show the Touch screen keyboard after login. Thanks in advance!

    :)

    Windows Hello

After installing the Fall Creator's update on my surface pro 4, when turning on the computer, Windows Hello will not login. It reads my face, but then goes back to the lock screen. You can then click Sign in options and use the pin to login. After the
initial login, if the screen locks, screensaver is turned on and locks the computer, Windows Hello will unlock the computer. Why is Hello not unlocking the computer? It worked before the Fall Creator's update.

    Hi Almighty1.

I have this same card and I've never had good success with it using drivers selected by Windows or the latest and greatest.

I use the V17.0.0.34. They are solid and I have no issues. Now I have mine plugged into an older laptop which could certainly be influencing situation. I would load the older driver and test. If that works you need to tell Windows to stop updating.

Here is a link to Intel. You just want the drivers, not the Proset software.

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...?product=75439

When installed you want to enter device manager, right click on adapter, properties, Power Management tab, remove check mark allow this device to be powered off to save power. You also want to go in Advance Power options and under the Wireless sub heading make sure it is set to maximum.

You may wish to change the power setting with your current drivers. As well you said it happens on powering on. Could be related to Windows Fast Startup so maybe first disable it and test.

Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

So disable Fast Startup and change power settings with current drivers. Test and then try older driver.

    Caledon Ken:

I actually figured it out, it was actually the OStoto WiFi Hotspot v4.4.0.2 I had installed that was the problem as it works fine after that software was uninstalled. I am using a October 2017 driver from Intel and it works fine. What version of the card do you have as the older versions did have problems. I wonder is there a better Mini-PCIE 802.11AC + Bluetooth card out there?

What I meant was it's not listed on the physical card itself but you would know when you ordered, the part number should be 7260.HMWG.R or 7260.HMWWB.R as the .R means revised. Earlier versions did have problems.

  7. Thanks. As I have to tear apart laptop to get to card it is easier to just go Feb drivers.

That being said I want to get a new radio for my wife's laptop. I would have steered away from 7260 without your info so thank you.

and thanks for posting your solution.

The thing is the part number is not listed on the card itself. It's only listed when you actually order it. If it came with the laptop, then it's hard to tell if you had the new version or not as it came out in August 2014. I am thinking about getting either a Qualcomm/Atheros or Broadcom based 802.11ac + Bluetooth Mini-PCIe card except the thing is it seems it's easier to find drivers for Intel than the others. Intel was never good in wireless, they are the best for wired networking though. Make sure to turn Throughput booster on in the driver configuration.

  10. Thanks. could be the issue with my card, funny though, the Feb driver works. I disabled power off in Power Mgmt tab of device manager properties.

The computer I'm using is circa 2007, built for XP.

Yeah, my machine is from Windows 7 in 2011, just never upgraded because the display supported 3D.
