  2. N82: WLAN - Can't find secure network

    Hi,

I have a wireless network at home and my N82 can't find it. I know that WLAN works on my N82 as I can connect to the WLAN at work, just fine.

Specifics of my home WLAN network are:

    - SSID broadcast disabled

    - WPA (TKIP) security, with pre-shared key

    - MAC address filter (with phones MAC manually entered into 'permit' list)

My phones ACCESS POINT configuration is as follows:

    - Connection Name: Same as SSID

    - Data Bearer: Wireless LAN

    - WLAN Network Name: Same as SSID

    - Network Access: Hidden (I've tried Public as well)

    - WLAN Network Mode: Infrastructure

    - WLAN Security Mode: WPA/WPA2

I have ensured that the Security Settings are set to 'Pre-Shared Key' and that the key as detailed in my router settings has been added to the phone. Also, WPA2 Only mode has been disabled.

When I request that the phone scans for a network, it comes back in under 5 sec. saying that 'No WLAN Network Found'.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    Bucko

N80: WLAN problem: "Define access pts. for secure WLAN networks [...]"

    Nokia N80 (black)

    Firmware: 3.0617.0.6

I have problems getting on the WLAN. Here is a step-by-step description of what I do:

    First:

    1) "Connect." -> "Conn. mgr" -> "Availab. WLAN"

    2) Mark "HQ" WLAN

    3) "Options" -> "Define access point"

    4) Answer "Yes" to "Define internet access point for WLAN network "HQ"?

    5) Get the message: "Define access pts. for secure WLAN networks in 'Access points' in conn. settings."

    Then:

    6) "Tools" -> "Settings" -> "Connection" -> "Access points"

    7) "Options" -> "New access point" -> "Use default settings"

    8) Write "HQ" in the "Connection name" field.

    9) "Data bearer": "Wireless LAN"

    10) "WLAN netw. name": "HQ"

    11) "Network status": "Public"

    12) "WLAN netw. mode": "Infrastructure"

    13) "WLAN security mode": "WPA/WPA2" (the WLAN is using "WPA-PSK")

    14) "WLAN securoty settings" sub-menu:

    - "WPA mode": "Pre-shared key"

    - Pre-shared key": the correct one (verified with laptop connection)

    - "TKIP encryption": I have tried both "Allowed" and "Not allowed".

    15) Homepage: "None".

When I go back and go through steps 1-5 again, I get the exact same message.

What am I doing wrong? Can someone give please me a _really_ detailed step-by-step guide for how to do this?

I have been able to use gcalsync (www.gcalsync.com) with the same "HQ" WLAN, but then it is gcalsync that asks for SSID and key. So: The WLAN works, I just don't understand how to set it up.

I will be very, very grateful if someone can help me with this. Thank you.

    Network Adapter PROBLEM

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

First Verify if the WLAN service is started and set to automatic, if the WLAN service is stopped, I would suggest you to start the service and put it to automatic.

Step 1: Please follow the steps to
    start the WLAN service.

    • Click on Start, type in services.msc
      and press Enter.

    • Select WLAN Autoconfig from the list, Right click
      properties.

    • Change the startup type to Automatic.

    • Click on Start button.

    • Click on Apply, Ok.
Restart the computer and verify if it works.

Also check if all the dependencies are also running. Try the steps to check Dependencies.

    • Right-click on WLAN Autoconfig and select Properties.

    • Click on Dependencies, you will find all the dependency services under box labeled this service depends on the following system components.
Step 2: Run an inbuilt Network troubleshooter.

    • Press Windows + X key and select
      Control Panel.

    • Type troubleshooting and select troubleshooting.

    • Click on view all on the left pane and select
      Network adapter.

    • Follow the on-screen steps and check.
I would also suggest you to check with the below link to check how to resolve wireless problems.
