Windows 10: WMP starts slowly

I'm using a completely updated Win 10 Pro. Every other app and program functions perfectly. WMP is extremely slow to start and it experiences MANY glitches in performance - locking, installing multiples of my music files, dropping the LH channel, etc. I've tried all of the attempts I've found on line to do an auto repair , close and reinstall thru Win 10, and even completely delete it and reinstall from the web. Nothing has worked. It seems that since it's locked into the OS, "you get what you got, with no way of deleting it and reinstalling.

WMP Problem

It should be there. Let's try again, step by step.

First, find out what version of Windows you have. Use the Winkey + R to bring up the 'Run' box, type Winver then click OK. You should see a version number, 1511, 1607 or 1703.

If you have 1703, open Settings > Apps. For any other version open Settings > System.

Click on Default in the list to the left (in 1703 it's called Default apps).

Scroll down the list to find 'Video player'. This will probably say the default is 'Films & TV'. Whatever it says, click on it to bring up a list of possible apps to set as the default. You should see something like this with Windows Media Player in the 'Choose an application' list. Click on Windows Media Player and it will become the default for all types of video.

 

How to force WMP to always apply/display changes to mp3 tag info?

Thank you for your reply. I was responding to your thread at the beginning of this thread which TD replied "...it should be listed in Extended Tags as a tag called RATING WMP...". So, I just did what you suggested and voila! The ratings that I've entered in WMP all these years show up in MP3tag! However, unfortunately a new rating I entered in WMP just now does not. I even rebooted my PC and still no luck. Does it happen with you too? Have I missed any steps?

 

WMP playlists are a mess

Between those two steps, delete them all out of the WMP view so that only the ones you have in the file folder are imported and are only listed once.
