Windows 10: wmp system delay

I am using the windows media player legacy version on a windows 11 laptop. the problem is when I click on the "start" feature there is always a 5 second or so delay before the wmp will actually start playing music files. I have tried to delete and re-install a new copy of the legacy player. no improvement. I have installed and used the "new" media player just released recently and same problem. ran various trouble shooters recreated my library. Still have the delay problem. I suspect this problem is due to a recent update by microsoft. Earlier there was a problem with the player starting immed

WMP Problem

It should be there. Let's try again, step by step.

First, find out what version of Windows you have. Use the Winkey + R to bring up the 'Run' box, type Winver then click OK. You should see a version number, 1511, 1607 or 1703.

If you have 1703, open Settings > Apps. For any other version open Settings > System.

Click on Default in the list to the left (in 1703 it's called Default apps).

Scroll down the list to find 'Video player'. This will probably say the default is 'Films & TV'. Whatever it says, click on it to bring up a list of possible apps to set as the default. You should see something like this with Windows Media Player in the 'Choose an application' list. Click on Windows Media Player and it will become the default for all types of video.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to perform system restore to the previous point
where it was working normally.

To do so kindly follow the below given steps:

How to force WMP to always apply/display changes to mp3 tag info?

Thank you for your reply. I was responding to your thread at the beginning of this thread which TD replied "...it should be listed in Extended Tags as a tag called RATING WMP...". So, I just did what you suggested and voila! The ratings that I've entered in WMP all these years show up in MP3tag! However, unfortunately a new rating I entered in WMP just now does not. I even rebooted my PC and still no luck. Does it happen with you too? Have I missed any steps?
