Windows 10: Wndows 10 Gradient/Color Banding

Hey guys,

Recently I've purchased a new monitor, an LG 27GL650F, great build quality, great picture quality and contrast for the buck, love it, now ... the issue is that I see gradient banding absolutely everywhere in Windows 10, in games I dont really see it to be honest, this frustration has led to to research and fix this issue, so far to no avail, my original monitor has the same problem in the same areas and even my 1500$ lenovo work laptop has exactly the same issues in the same areas which makes me think.. its not the monitor itself but a windows 10 thing ?

Gradient Suggestion

Hello, this is just a suggestion on customization.

For some reason. You may notice that

I like Light Blue and Red but
TOGETHER said in my profile picture.

As of this, it is boring for me for a single solid color.

So.. I suggest a gradient color that you can customize but
still the original Windows 10 visual theme
NOT the classic one from the 19's and Windows 7.

But you can still choose a solid Windows color.

If this will be added I would be thankful.

I post this AGAIN but in the Microsoft Community this time.

Since Microsoft does not add it... since I suggest them on Facebook but I hear no news from the recent Windows 10 builds as they also agree.

 

Gradient Banding On My Full HD Monitor

most games use compressed textures = banding, but maybe you can post some screenshots for others to look at

the monitor is 23MP65HQ? is it cheap? it's probably 6bit not 8bit = banding

steam UI? = banding due to the narrow color range of its gradients

here is a trick to confirm that the banding is the source image's fault & not your monitor: simply take a screenshot, use an eyedropper tool that displays the hexadecimal value, see if the actual color is changing exactly where the bands are (i can prove the steam ui has banding by design, technically the limitation of 24bit color with the colors valve chose)

now why does the tv supposedly not have banding? either it's dithering or crushing or your inspection isnt quite right or your desktop monitor is awful

you should post some (PNG!! lossless!) screenshots so we can be positive that the source image is a reliable test, the game shots will be most interesting, dont bother with steam, certainly dont bother with low resolution + low bitrate videos

 

Window background color - I don't appear to be able to do this on windows 10 as the change color scheme bit isn't there.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to change color scheme for Windows 10 and check if it helps.

• Right click on “Desktop screen”.
• Then click on “Personalize”.
• Click on “Colors”.
• And change the color accordingly.
