I am trying to do a clean install of windows, without all the vendor addons, and unfortunately the Installation procedure isn't recognizing my Inland Platinum 4Tb m.2 NVMe PCIe when it gets to the option to choose a drive. Neither will do a clean installation because of this issue. I have checked the bios and it shows up just fine. I checked with the drive vendor and they could not suggest anything more than what I did. I do the internal system checks through the bios and everything passes just fine, no issues found. If I use a rescue USB provided by HP everything is seen just fine, and works

    :)

  2. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.

    PCIe adapter to NVMe SSD

I have a Dell Inspiron 580 desktop circa 2012 running Windows 7. Would like to upgrade to Windows 10 and boot from a new PCIe adapter for NVMe SSD. I understand that I may have to install new NVWe drivers to have BIOS recognize PCIe as a boot drive option.
Am on I the right track? Is this even possible? Any help would be appreciated. TIA

    PCIe adapter to NVMe SSD

    Hi,

First off, you need to determine if your BIOS supports booting from a PCIe NVMe M.2 drive..

I have a 2012 era Asrock motherboard in which the Bios provided by Asrock did not support booting from the NVMe, although it could be used for DATA.. I eventually found a website catering to the editing of BIOS files and was able to add modifications to
the Bios to make this work.. It works well..

Windows 7 will need drivers for the PCIe NVMe, Windows 10 has them built-in...

New drivers will not solve a Bios issue that does not support your device.. You will need an actual Bios that is capable of recognizing it as a boot device.. Your Bios may support it now, but it may not.. It depends upon what type of updates Dell has made
    available..
