Windows 10: Wondering what things to consider

Hello,

Used kari's tutorial when setting up Windows 10 a few years back.

Now, am having issues with Windows update and might need to either use
- Media creation tool to update to latest Win-1909 OR
- install using windows10.0-kb4549951-x64_5411f88ea08bfc0ac98f388f5a3bdc8bcfea3261.msu

Wondering what things to consider before deciding on which step to choose and what to look for while updating considering my Users folder etc are on another partition.

Things to consider while doing domain consolidation and migration

Since different scenario will have different approach; I can just give you a General guideline. Hope it can help.

1) Things to consider for applications premigration, during migration and post migration to new domain (authentication, joining application server to new domain etc.)

Ans: You need to list out all application and the dependence such as, Skype for business using domain name to identify user account and authentication, that will be a huge of work to do. And you may require to do so call a SIT test to make sure user can access
their application. Of course only migrating one domain at a time and leaving a week to make sure everything is okey before start to process to next domain.

MUST plan ahead of required time, Fall back procedure, and fall back time. List out the testing plan for user and application.

2. Things to consider at AD level or domain controller

Ans: Mostly are the GPO,OU and account policy, if they are not consistence, you need to find a way to make it work.

3. Things to consider on infrastructure level like DNS, DHCP etc.

Ans: General speaking, DNS and DHCP usually no need be change if they are already can be trust or talk ( ping) or access between each other. Just in case, you need to review the firewall, switch and router 's rules and setting.

* If you are migrating something independent and isolated network and never able to talk each other, you may need to setup some site-to-site VPN to make them talk to each other.

4. Things to consider at client/user level

Mostly still GPO, policy, access right, password policy, And you may require joining a new domain for each client PC .
