Windows 10: Won't install Windows 10 Update

Since about early July my wife's computer (Windows Ultimate, I-5, 8GB desktop) says it has an update, but when you start the update, it takes a very long time (1 hour+) and then ends with this error message:


Windows Setup

X Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation.


The only choice given is to click "OK". No error # or anything else. Clicking ok, restarts the computer.


I have retried this many, many times over several different days (last time this morning), but always get the same result. We have never had any kind of trouble like this before.

Windows updates won't install!

I had the same problem when i repaired my O/S, i forgot the steps on how to fixed it, but it is in the microsoft support forum.

You have to reinstall the windows updater, then restart the updating service.

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP
