Windows 10: Word document opens in gibberish

Discus and support Word document opens in gibberish in Windows 10 Software and Apps to solve the problem; I am using Word 2007.     I am using Word 2007. A few of the documents I transferred from my old computer have opened in gibberish e.g Code: ãªh–8mÆBÍ× RCq,cÊ[Q·$‡'“JQ½˜ÞžéfÞU’PÄaèzÕy›;ˆ•Ô ÇÍÞ*{Ñ» *Uˆn[1]Æx*ÇÍj[/quote] The method recommended by Msoft https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/893672/how-to-open-documents-by-using-the-open-and-repair-feature-in-wordis hopeless, and I cannot actually find the open and repair option mentioned.

    I hope I can rack your brains for a solution, please!

    My documents that go to Notepad

    why does notepad or others keep transferring my English notes etc into "gibberish" words I want the info left in English without it changing to "gibberish"

    This has happened since ,my windows 7 changed to windows 10 most of my documents keep coming up with this Gibberish. Also when I try to open some of my documents up pops "How do you want to open this documents" when I opened my documents before W10 all
    my docs. came up and I could read them without all this nonsense - can you help me with these problems?

    Also when I wish to open my documents up pops "how do you wish to open this" etc Can you help with these problems With wondows 7 I just opened my documents without this nonsense. thank you

    Just a thought- which language were the original documents in?

    And of course, do you have a backup copy?

    Standard UK English. The backups are in same state. I also looked for earlier ones that might have been unaffected but deleted with Recuva
