Windows 10: Word files disappearing randomly

Windows updated and all the files seemed to have disappeared. I signed back in and restarted and they came back. That was a few days ago. This morning, it took an extended period of time to start up saying "Preparing Windows..." and when it did I logged back out of my Microsoft account. I logged back in and all the work I did in the last few days is gone and I can't seem to find it. All that's there are files from a week ago. This is ridiculous and it's absurd that a product as core and simple as Microsoft Word is causing such problems. How do I get this resolved, and quickly?

Hello! So similarly to other people I have the same problem, I did try what @simrick suggested, this is what it looks like.

That should not be happening but it's a different issue...that may be fixed running sfc /scannow. I suspect corrupted files there.
