Working with a dock and 2 external monitors. The 2nd monitor doesn't have black color but grey.

    Hi,

I'm using a dell Laptop with a docking station.

No matter what I do, if I plug 2 monitors to the docking station 1 will have regular black color and in the 2nd the black color will be grey actually.

    • I've changed to different monitors, the problem is the same.
    • The monitor that works good it has actual black color is the one connected via HDMI the other one is VGA connected.
    • If I play around with the cables it's possible that the monitor connected via the VGA will have the black color, but it will revert back after restart.
    • Its 100% not color setting, because if I switch between the monitors cables, the "black" and the "grey" switch also.

This literally going to drive me crazy, help is highly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    :)

    Color Display on 2nd monitor

I am using Windows 10 on a Dell laptop with a 2nd monitor which has been working fine. For some unknown reason I have suddenly lost the full color range on the 2nd monitor. I don't know if I have changed some setting by accident or what. I have tried
resetting the defaults but that didn't change anything on the 2nd monitor. The primary screen on the laptop continues to work fine. Any suggestions what needs to be done to restore the full color range on monitor #2?

Surface Laptop 3 with external monitor

    Hi All,

Has anyone come across an issue with an external monitor blacking out while connected to a Surface Laptop 3? I have the laptop connected to a widescreen laptop with the Surface Dock. Both work fine however, once every hour or so the external monitor blacks out and comes back.

    I've completed the following:

    • Updated laptop drivers and firmware
      • Updated monitor drivers
      • Swapped out monitor

  4. Working with a dock and 2 external monitors. The 2nd monitor doesn't have black color but grey.

Second monitor turned black, worked before

Hendrik and friends. We are dealing with a very similar problem. Still looking for help.

    Our configuration first:

Lenovo Yoga PC upgraded in July from Win 8.1 to Win 10. Runs an Intel video card. Connected to Targus USB-3 docking station. Two identical ASUS VN247H-P monitors, the primary connected via DVI-D cable and secondary via HDMI - both plugged into the Targus
    docking station.

Prior to the Windows 10 Upgrade, both monitors worked as expected with the laptop lid up or down, and before or after un-docking/ re-docking. I noted in the Monitor properties that during the W-10 upgrade the monitor device failed to migrate, so now my
PC sees them as generic PnP devices. (there is a log entry there: Display Settings, Advanced Display Settings, Display Adapter Properties; Monitor tab; Properties button; Events tab; Events list and Information box.)

I am able to get both monitors (or all 3 with the laptop open) to work. Here is how I get there:

    1. Dock the laptop with the lid open. Primary external monitor comes on. Secondary monitor has message "Out of Range" in a grey box on the otherwise black screen.

    2. Right-click on Primary, select Display Settings, click on my Primary monitor. At this point Display Settings sees all 3 monitors.

    3. Then I instruct settings to "Duplicate Monitor 2 and 3," click the keep this button (display is very bad).

    4. Then I instruct settings to "Extend desktop to Monitors 2 and 3." Now all is good.

At this point my configuration works until I un-dock the PC. On return I need to repeat the process.

I have downloaded new drivers from the vendors for the Intel card, the Targus docking station, and cannot find new W-10 drivers by ASUS.

What I think is needed is a way to update my PC's configuration to know what monitors I have. Can't figure that out.

As a further troubleshooting step I un-docked the Lenovo Yoga and docked a Dell Latitude that was upgraded to Windows 10, but never previously connected to the Targus or the 2 Asus monitors. It also failed to remember the settings.
