Worried about a .docx file I opened

Recently I opened a .docx file that I probably shouldn't have. I've done scans with Bitdefender, Malwarebytes and full Windows defender scans, they all came up clean. I permanently deleted the file before I could check if there was a .exe extension. I wasn't prompted to enable any macros and word didn't warn me about any macros in the .docx file. I've also checked my other .docx files for any new macros but there are none. My computer and internet has been functioning normally and I haven't seen any unusual performance from my cpu and memory. I'm still worried about something malicious being installed on my computer despite all this. Am I being way too paranoid? Thanks for any replies.

  2. If I click on a DOCX file, it always opens in LibreOffice.

I have Office 2010 with Win 10 Pro.

If I click on a DOCX file, it always opens in LibreOffice.

Here's how I open the DOCX file:

    - R-click on the DOCX file
    - Click Open With
    - MS Word is in the list, but ignore it (see later).
    - Click Choose Another App
    - Click MS-Word
    - Check "Always use this app..." (the earlier option would not display the check box).

The selected file opens. Close Word.

L-click on the DOCX file. The file opens in LibreOffice.

The above actions can be done immediately after a reboot, or a normal boot - but L-click never opens the file in Word.

    I would appreciate any advice.

Footnote: I like to keep LibreOffice installed and updated, so I can practice occasionally in case MS stop supporting Office 2010.
    Thanks.

  3. comments and tags in docx files don't display in explorer file folders

    Hi Charles,

We would need more information regarding your concern about the description of your .docx files. To better assist you with your concern, kindly answer the following questions:

    • Have you always experienced this issue with .docx files?
    • Were you able to add some description on your .docx files? If yes, what were the steps that you took in adding descriptions to your .docx files?
    • Is this issue only happening with .docx files?

We look forward to your response.

Worried about a .docx file I opened

    File extension *.docx

I already did all the steps you suggested but MS Office 2013 ignored my change and defaulted to *.docx. Is there some other solution?
