  2. System Image Restore Error

    Hello,

I have recently purchased a new PC and intended to restore a system image created on my previous PC on the new one. I created recovery media using Windows 10 and ran into an error when restoring from the system image on my external HDD.

The error: "system image restore failed. Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer that has different firmware. The system image was created on a computer using BIOS and this computer is using UEFI.

I am now aware there are incompatibilities with the file systems used on the previous drive and the new one. Is there any way around this issue? I have contacted microsoft but they have said it is not possible, however I have viewed a number of articles
online that seem to suggest it is.

If it is not possible to restore this image on my new PC, can I recover the data on this system image and if so, what is the best way to do this?

I am ok with purchasing third-party software if it is necessary/easier.

    Thanks!!

    Cameron

    Help, cant create windows image

    Hello there, @fullinfusion!

It seems like some sort of an OS confusion has happened with your secondary WD Black and I'm sorry to hear about that. *Frown Would it be possible to create a system image of Windows 11 Pro and restore it on a new... :(
Maybe re-formatting it would help indeed as the community already mentioned. I'd suggest to take a look at this step-by-step how to partition and format an HDD: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=PYCoid
Keep in mind that this will wipe clean the drive, so you should backup all important data from the drive somewhere else.
I noticed from the screenshots that your HDD appears as Disk 0, this means that it's plugged in the primary SATA port where the SSD (as an OS drive) should be. Actually it is possible that because of this Windows cannot create the image there. Swap the ports of the SSD and the HDD, this might help as well.

Keep me posted. Hope this helped! *Smile Would it be possible to create a system image of Windows 11 Pro and restore it on a new... :)
