  1. would it be wise to switch from enterprise to standard win

    Hi all,
I have been using win 10 enterprise preview edition, Would it be wise to switch standard win 10 TP before tomorows new build is available or do i need too?.

My thinking is costs when the new finished products are available. I do not need a full blown IT version as there is only me and my girlfriend on my small home network.

    please advise Topper.

    :)

Windows 10 activation by using windows 8 key

    Hi,

Another issue is that you can't just switch from Enterprise to Pro by using a key...

A Win 8\10 Pro key will not work on the Enterprise version anyway...

  3. Win10 activation using Win7 Product Key upgrading product version variant also

You cant upgrade from home to Enterprise and win 10 enterprise is not included in the free upgrade.

You can only get WIN 10 Enterprise as a trial or from a volume licensing center.

And no a fresh win 7 Enterprise would not "upgrade" to win 10 Enterprise for free. Contact VLC or purchase Pro

would it be wise to switch from enterprise to standard win

    Hi there

Enterprise gives you Windows to Go if you like that facility, bit locker encryption, logon to domains etc.

It will also give you the possibility of adding the Language Interface packs when these are released so you could say have a base English version of Windows while adding say WELSH / BASQUE or whatever other languages.

I'm not sure how the different SKU's of Windows 10 will stack up but previously the HOME versions wouldn't allow Language interface packs etc.

You should be able to get a comparison of what the different editions contain. Choose the features you want and select the build appropriately. If the price isn't horribly different I would tend to go with the version with the most features as it's a pain re-installing everything again afterwards. I don't mind on a TEST OS but on a real everyday use work machine --no thanks. One install is enough.

    Cheers

Very good point, thinking ahead - I have posted ways of upgrading between editions but if you are gonna use it forward as your main OS then, yes best to go with what you intend buying when it goes RTM.

  6. I wouldn't bother switching now. Wait and see if ISO's become available. Then pick the one you want and only reinstall the one time. I'll take an clean install over an upgrade any month with a week in it. Superfly has a point. It may be a wise choice to use the one you think you are actually going to buy. You may still have a decision to make down the line though. The preview is I believe the equivalent of Pro. The final may have Core and Pro editions.

Yup, wonder how the Win/7 and Win8 upgrades are going to be handled...eg. if one is on Core or WMC - normally you are only allowed same edition upgrades, and there are none of those yet available.

Thanks all for the advice, I think I shall stay with the enterprise edition for now as alphanumeric suggests.
I have installed Quite a few Games and apps, do you advise an upgrade or clean install from the ESD file tomorow?. My current build is :9879.

  9. My personal choice is to do a clean install. I don't have Windows 10 installed on any of my PC's at the moment but if I did I would reinstall anyway. That's just me though. If your going to stay with Enterprise, (nothing wrong with doing that) try the upgrade first. Then if you have issues default back to a clean install. Just backup anything you don't want to lose to external media before doing anything, just in case.

  10. My plans are to install W-10 consumer on it's own SSD all by itself so I can compare.

  11. I'm leaning that way myself. I have an SSD that I can add to my desktop and setup a dual boot. I'll just disconnect my 8.1 hard drive before I do the install. Then I'll use my BIOS quick boot menu to pick which OS I want. That way if I want to nuke the Windows 10 setup Windows 8 will be just like I originally set it up with no dual boot leftovers to clean up. I really want to see how Windows 10 handles a multi monitor setup.
