  1. WpnUserService_ keeps randomly running in the background on PC boot!

Ok, a few months ago in May I used to have this issue. Randomly on computer boot I noticed that sometimes I would get WpnUserService_ and AarSvc_ showing up in Task Manager Services tab. However, only WpnUserService_(with a random number) would keep running in the background.

A few restarts of the computer and it would disappear again. At that time I checked somewhere on the web C:\Users\My Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Notifications and to delete that Notifications folder and restart.

After doing that this service disappeared and never showed up again for the last 3 months!!!

Around 2 weeks ago I bought a new PowerA Xbox One Gamepad controller and installed the driver and now suddenly after 3 months this started reappearing again!

As you can see and some of you may have noticed this too and it is random. Sometimes it doesn't appear at all. Other times even after several restarts this WpnUserService would not go away!

I tried following the same method by deleting the Notifications folder so that on restart it will self-generate again. But this time this WpnUserService will no longer go away.

My Windows Version is Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 1903. I did an SFC/ Scannow and it doesn't find integrity violations.

Why is this happening and how can I get rid of this so it doesn't start running in the background? What is the purpose behind this service that randomly runs on start-up and other times won't appear at all?!?!

    :)

  2. Background applications

    Hi Robert,

We understand that you don't want some apps to run on the background of your computer. What we suggest is to
control which apps are allowed to run in the background. To see which apps have permission, just follow the below steps:

    • Open the Start menu or Start screen and select “Settings.”
    • Click or tap the “Privacy” icon in the Settings.
    • Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select “Background apps.”
    • You’ll see a list of apps that have permission to run in the background with an “On/Off” toggle.
Just bear in mind that, apps normally run in the background to update their live tiles, download new data, and receive notifications. If you want an app to continue performing these functions, you should allow it to continue running in
    the background.

Feel free to update us with the results.

    Apps running in Background

    Hi JonBlann,

Windows 10 allows some apps to run in the background even if you never open it. This would let the applications to update itself or to get you notified with what's new with the app. However, this would consume most of your battery, bandwidth, and system
    resources.

You can refer to the steps below on how to disable apps from running in the background:

    1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Background apps.
    2. Under Background apps, toggle off the Let apps run in the background switch to disable all apps that come from Microsoft Store. If you want to disable only a specific app, then you can toggle off the switch next to the
app under Choose which app can run in the background.

Let us know how it goes and we'll assist you further if needed.
