  1. Wrong/Repeated/Changed Directory Name in Command Prompt

In using the directory command on a 4tb USB external drive the following occurred.

the Directory on Windows Explorer (GUI) is: d:/Backups/Documents/….

In CMD, entering "Dir d:/backups " lists all the other directories in the folder except "Documents" but there is a (new?/alias?) directory "Backups" which does not appear in Explorer but "Dir d:/Backups/Backups" produces a list of the files in the actual d:/Backups/Documents folder.

Strangely enough, going back to Windows Explorer (GUI) and entering "d:/backups/backups" shows the contents of the "Documents" folder but the location bar remains "d:/backups/backups"

Doing anything to cause the location bar to loose focus results in its changing to the proper address.

We appreciate you getting back to us. To change the cmd name, we suggest that you follow this steps:

    • Open a Command Prompt (Adimin) window: Win+X, A, Alt+Y
    • Then run the following command to change your computer name to Donner: WMIC ComputerSystem where Name=COMPUTER-NAME call Rename Name=NewName
    • Reboot your PC.
    • Try to run ipconfig / all command, you should find that the Host Name in Windows IP Configuration list has been changed to the new name.

    Change command prompt default directory

How do I change the command prompt's default directory in Windows 10? I see instructions in Sevenforums to do this in Windows 7 but not in Windows 10. Will the Windows 7 instructions work in Windows 10?
