Wrong vertical resolution on maximized windows after display resolution change

Hi! I recently bought a new 4k display and my scaling is set to 200%. As previously, my scaling is performed on GPU that's how it was always set in Nvidia Control Panel for best image quality. So each time i launch a full screen game which runs a lower resolution for example 1440p or lower and then exit that game or Alt + Tab this game to run it in windowed mode, the vertical size of maximized windows in windows explorer or any other app gets broken for some reason. It means that when I maximize explorer or any other app for example Chrome window, the task bar starts hiding the lower part

    :)

    Hi Rick,

It might be caused by a faulty driver that's why your display resolution keeps changing. We
suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the display driver, see steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X and click on
      Device Manager.
    • For graphics cards, expand the Display adapters category, right click your graphics card and select Uninstall.

  4. Wrong vertical resolution on maximized windows after display resolution change

screen resolution windows 10, display is stretched vertically

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

It is very important to have the correct screen resolution settings in your Windows PC as it facilitates better display of content and the clarity of images. Higher is the resolution, sharper are the images and contents on your PC

I suggest you to check the resolution of your screen and make changes according to your requirements. To change screen resolution follow the steps below

    1. Go to your desktop, right-click your mouse and go to
    Display Settings.

    2. A panel will open. Here you can adjust the size of text, apps, and other items and also change the orientation. To change the resolution settings, scroll down this window and click on Advanced Display Settings

1366 X 768 is the recommended screen resolution

    1. You can change it according to your requirements.

NOTE: Lower is the resolution, larger is the content displayed on your screen. From the available options in the drop-down menu, select the one you want and click Apply

    1. If it is not the optimal setting for your system, you will see an Optimal Resolution Notification

You may ignore the notification and confirm your Screen Resolution changes by clicking on
Keep The Changes, or you may select another screen resolution. You will get just 15 seconds to confirm the changes or else it will revert to the default display settings.

If the issue still exits, I suggest you to install display drivers in a compatibility mode and check.

Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.
Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

    a. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.

    b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on
    ‘properties’.

    c. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box
‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows (Previous operating system) operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Your reply is very important for us to ensure a proper resolution. Please get back to us with the above information in order to assist you accordingly.
