Windows 10: WU force update old AMD graphic driver

I have an IdeaPad Gaming 3-15ACH6 Laptop - Type 82K2. As of now, WU keeps pushing up an old version of the AMD graphic driver and it messes with the AMD Adrenalin app. If the update goes through then I will get an error message when opening the AMD Adrenalin app that the graphic driver and the AMD Adrenalin app version does not compatible with each other. Then I have to use the AMD Adrenalin app installer from their website and install both the graphic driver and the app ticking the Factory reset option while I install it. I just wondering if is there any way to stop WU from updating to an old

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check, if it helps:

Method 1: I suggest you to update drivers and check if that helps. If that issue persist please uninstall and reinstall latest drivers available in manufacturer website.

• Press “Windows + X” and select Device manger.
• Select Display Adapter and expand the driver icon.
• Right click on the driver icon and click on Update.
• Follow the onscreen instructions to update the driver.

If that issue persist try to install in Compatibility mode

Method 2::Compatibility mode

I would suggest you to install the latest available drivers on manufacturer's website in compatibility mode.

Follow the steps below on how to install driver in compatibility mode:

1. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.

2. Right click on the setup file of the driver and select “Properties”.

3. Select “Compatibility” Tab.

4. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select operating system from the drop down list.

5. Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

How to stop Windows Update updating graphic driver?

I had the same problem. Hiding the update was the easiest way for my case.

1. Re-install the AMD drivers to overwrite what Windows Update installed.
2. Do NOT run Windows Update at this point.
3. Instead, run WU Show/Hide Tool. Let it find the old AMD drivers and hide them.

Next time you run Windows Update, it should no longer automatically install the old version.
