Windows 10: Xbox controller driver error. Code 10 device cannot start

Xbox one controller that used to work ages ago wired to pc keeps flashing and won't connect.Xbox one peripherals category in device manager wasn't there so I installed the driver for it and now the box one controller driver in it is coming back with code 10 device cannot start.Tried uninstalling it as well as all the usb drivers, restart computer with controller plugged in and blinking and w10 auto installs the usb drivers again but still no luck with starting the controller driver.W10 had an available system update I tried just in case but hasn't helped.Looked on another pc and the xbox contr

The above issue might occur due to non-updated or incompatible device drives with Windows 10 OS installed on the computer.



Before we assist further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

• Did you make any recent system changes to the computer?
• Are you getting any error message or error code when the driver stopped?

Update the controller drivers manually from
Device manager by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved. Refer to

If the issue persists, uninstall and re-install the device driver on the computer by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• Connect the game controller to the computer, press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
  Device manager from the context menu.
• Expand Sound, video and game controllers from the window, right click on the controller driver and select
  Uninstall from the context menu.
• Follow the onscreen instructions and wait for the device driver to uninstall.
• Restart and plug in Xbox one controller to the computer and check if the driver software is installing on the computer.
• After the installation is complete, close the window and check if the changes are effective.

EDIT: Per the asker's request;

I'm not sure if this solved it or if it was just a weird side effect of changing the drivers version forward and backward again. When connected via USB cable it said "Xbox controller", changed that to "Xbox gaming device", unplugged the USB cable, and the wireless stuff started to work for whatever reason... No idea why!
