Windows 10: Xbox Controller Suddenly Malfunctioning - right joystick 'stuck' up

So I was using my Xbox controller on my gaming laptop earlier today and I had no issues whatsoever with using it. I came back to play again about 2 hours later and upon connection to my computer both wired and wireless the controller seemed to have a constant upwards input on the right joystick and also on the right trigger? for context, I was playing Halo and I was just looking up and shooting with zero control or ability to stop it at all. I have had the controller for about 2 years and it is in very good condition with no physical damage to it. I have had xbox controllers before that

Xbox one controller suddenly not working with Windows 10

Problem description:

- Xbox One controller now listed in Device Manager as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

- I get the following "USB device not recognized" notification when connecting Xbox One controller:

The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned

Troubleshooting steps taken:

- Restart computer multiple times

- Try with 2 additional USB cables

- Try all 3 cables in different USB slots

- Uninstall controller in Device Manager, then reconnected controller. Devices is re-added with same error message:

"Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

Observations:

- When I tried plugging controller into the keyboard's built in USB sockets, it caused the keyboard and mouse to suddenly stop working and appear to power down until restart.

- This controller has never had this problem on this device in the past, and has previous worked perfectly with all 3 cables I used in testing.

Any additional troubleshooting steps you can suggest? Thanks in advance.

USB joystick

Did the joystick work on Win10 prior to v1803 update ?

Which MS games ?

What brand and model joystick ? Does the joystick show in Device Manger > Human Interface Devices,

Universal Serial Bus Devices, or XBOX 360 Peripherals ?

[ Funny thing about Sound, Video and Game Controllers, is the game controllers don't get listed there. Never have

on my machine. ]
