Windows 10: Xbox Controller Windows 11 headset MIC not working - SOLVED

THIS IS A FIX that worked for me and not a question, cos I'm yet to find a valid answer anywhere.For controllers plugged into USB, where your headset works to hear people but your MIC doesn't. Seems to be a Win 11 issue primarily... TRY THIS...Swap Cables.It was that simple after 3 different controllers, 3 Pcs 1x 22H win10, 1x 23H win11, 1x 24H win 11.Mine worked on the win10 22H PC, then I built a new PC with win11 23H.I had to upgrade the New 23H build to 24H because of another major incompatibility issue, THANKS MICROSOFT..., but when I did I lost the MIC from the headset, it would detec

Still not working for me. I did find out one more interesting fact:

I tried to go to Speech Properties (Advanced Speech Options -- under Speech Recognition)

and when I selected my Xbox 360 headset as the recording device, and restarted Speech Properties, it gave me the following error message:

"Could not initialize volume meter, please select a different recording device"

FYI -- I've messed with Privacy-Microphone and Control Panel-Sound settings to no avail: default devices, enabling/disabling, reinstalling drivers, levels, mute, etc. Nothing works. This is DEFINITELY a Windows 10 problem. My chat headset works great
on my Xbox360 and when I was on Windows 7, my USB Xbox360 controller and chat headset were working perfectly. I'm regretting my upgrade and highly debating reverting back.

Update: I found another thread and they recommended the follow which worked for me...

• Control Panel - Sound - Recording
• • Disable alternate microphones (eg: webcam mic)
• Device Manager
• • Sound, video and game controllers - Headset (XBOX 360 For Windows)
  • • Uninstall driver
  • Scan for Hardware Changes (will auto-install Xbox Headset)
• Restart

 

Headset mic detected but not working on Xbox pad win 11

I'm having trouble with my headset mic when connected through my Xbox pad on windows 11. I was using the headset with no issues then it just stopped picking up the mic. The headset speakers are working fine and I'm using a usb cable for the pad.

I've tried

Different headsets. All have same issue and work on other devices

Format and setup the pc with fresh install, no file/settings transfer. Tried with windows standard driver on first boot then with updated driver. Issue persists with both.

If I plug a mic or a headset directly into a mic in port on the pc It picks up the mic. In the inputs section of sound settings I can see it's getting input.

I've looked through every setting suggested on other posts but all look fine. I know the headset worked the last time I formatted the pc so thought id try that to reset all settings back to a known working state.

The cable I'm using is the same one it worked on earlier

I'm completely out of ideas on how to resolve this. Any help would be much appreciated.

 

Headset Microphone Not Working on Windows via Xbox Elite Controller

I have my Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller plugged into my PC running Windows 11 via USB. I use a Razer Kraken X Lite headset plugged into that controller via the 3.5mm TRRS audio jack. I am able to hear audio but cannot get the microphone to work. Windows shows both the "Headphones (Xbox Controller)" and "Headset Microphone (Xbox Controller)" under the Audio inputs, as well as the "Xbox One Controller" under the Xbox Peripherals section of the Device Manager. All drivers were automatically installed and show as correct.

I have tried:

• Resetting my computer
  
• Deleting the devices in Device Manager and reconnecting
  
• Making sure Windows and the Xbox controller is up-to-date
  
• Testing the headset, which works when plugged into the controller on my Xbox console
  
• Plugging in the headset to a splitter directly to the computer, which works but is VERY soft and unusable (even at full audio strength)
  

Hoping someone has some idea what I can try besides the things I've already found listed above. Thanks in advance for your help!
