How to Enable or Disable Projecting to this PC in Windows 10

The Projecting to this PC feature uses the Connect app to allow you to wirelessly project your Windows Phone, another PC, or Android devices to the screen of this PC, and use its keyboard, mouse, and other devices too.

Starting with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14328, there is separate settings available for Projecting to this PC if your PC has Wi-Fi.

Windows PCs and phones can project to your PC when you say it's OK.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable the ability to project to this PC for all users in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to enable or disable projecting to this PC.

    Regarding Project to this PC

    Hi,

Recent changes or updates applied to your devices can affect the connection from your PC to your tablet. It could be a delay on both devices, try reconnecting them back by disabling and enabling the option. Since you were able to connect before, we'd like
to ask you a few questions:

    • Can you tell us your settings under Projecting to this PC?
    • What are the troubleshooting steps that you've done so far?
    • Were there any recent changes or updates applied to the PC or tablet?

Enable or Disable Projecting to this PC in Windows 10

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  5. Projecting to this PC is missing

    Hello Frederik Long

I was trying to use "Projecting to this PC" feature which should be found in windows 10 pro (see image bellow ) to display my mobile's screen on my laptop.

Enable or Disable Projecting to this PC in Windows 10 projecting-to-this-pc.png

This feature is not here in my Operating system.

I used the gpedit.exe and regedit.exe to enable the feature described in the following link (to enable it ) but sadly it did not succeed.

Enable or Disable Projecting to this PC in Windows 10

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Connect\

  6. Can't find my PC on my phone to project to it

    Hi,

Thanks you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

Appreciate your efforts to work on this issue.

    1. Are you aware of any changes made to the PC prior to this issue?
    2. Have you enabled the Bluetooth option on the PC?

This issue can occur if some PC settings or options are not working as expected.

On the PC where you want to project, ensure that the PC is discovered and seen by the phone. Project to this PC has two parts: you first need to customize the settings, and then use the Connect app to establish a connection.

Open the Settings screen, click on System and click on Project to this PC.

In order to make your device discoverable by the other device you're trying to project, you have to customize the "Windows PCs and phones can project to this PC when you say it's OK" option.

Refer to the suggestion made by ‘Antoneth Ber’ from this
    thread
to check if that helps you.

Further, you may also want to temporarily disable the security or firewall software on the PC to check if that helps.

Note: Ensure to enable the security software after the troubleshooting is done to keep the PC safe and secure.

Let us know how it goes.
