Windows 10: Xbox one controller bluetooth connection asks PIN but refuses to work win 10

I bought Xbox controller but bluetooth connection with PC asks for PIN code that never works. I have tried 0000 and 1234 and few others. "Add device" and "add bluetooth device" actions only answer "That didn't work" or "Your game controller quit waiting. Try adding it again". Tried these steps

Tabletop pc with Windows 10, newest updates installed.

Bluetooth 2.0 dongle on usb port latest drivers

Xbox one controller updated via usb, bought 2020 spring.

Xbox accessories app installed


All devices have been shut down and restarted many times.


Some forum suggested using bluetooth 4.0 dongle or Xbox dongle, but the package or official pages do not tell that. If that is true and bluetooth device must have version 4.0, why this essential information is not told to customer before buying product? Playing with usb cord is not so bad, but I bought awireless controller and to use it wirelessly, do I really have to buy another 20€ device?

You will be asked for a PIN when connecting your wireless Xbox One controller via Bluetooth on Windows 10 if your Bluetooth drivers are not updated. It is also possible that you have to reset the controller to remove the PIN. To resolve your concern, restart
your controller by following the steps below:

• Power off the controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button on the controller for 6 seconds.
• Press the Xbox button again to power it back on.
• Connect your Xbox Wireless Controller to your PC using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

I have exactly the same problem.

I already have:

• updated my windows 10 (3rd November 2017)
• Reset the controller
• Updated the bluetooth drivers (Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed ... )
• Connected the controller with a USB cable (Microsoft XBox One Controllers works fine if wired)

but the system ask for a PIN

Any suggestion?
