Windows 10: Xbox One Controller not recongnized

Ive been having a constant issue with my Xbox One controller when trying to connect it to my windows 10 pc that began happening a few weeks ago. Every time I plug it in I've tried every USB port on my computer I will see a different result or sound which makes troubleshooting even more difficult....


When I plug the controller in, one of the following will happen:


-I will hear a "connected sound" through windows 10 and shortly after hear a "disconnected sound", followed by a notification stating an unrecognized USB device has been plugged in or malfunctioned. The light on the Xbox controller will not light up.


if i hold down the power button, the Xbox controller will power on and start to try to connect via Bluetooth. Its odd that the controller has power under this condition, however refuses to share data with my computer


-The Xbox controller light will light up, but no audible sound through windows 10.


In either case, my controller will not work via USB.


Ive tried to update the driver on the "Unknown USB Device" that shows up in my Device Manager but it seems to be up to date...I'm stuck at this point.


Before you "recommend" I just use wireless or bluetooth, Id be upset if id have to explain why your product should work as intended in the first place, or the fact that bluetooth creates noticeable latency between controller input and game /character reaction time....


Ive seen this question posted in the a couple years ago but couldnt find any solution to the issue...sad to say Microsoft hasnt made any strides to fix this well reported and documented issue in at least 2 years.

Can’t connect Xbox one controller to pc

Initially, we need to pair the device to show up in the list while connected through Bluetooth. Check with the below mentioned steps and see if it works.
