Windows 10: Xbox One S Controller stuck on unsupported bitrate

I've ended up with an issue where any Xbox One S controller I connect automatically gets set to "2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz DVD Quality" format.


Here's the thing - the controller doesn't support that frequency - so all audio comes out sounding distorted/in slow motion.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the controller drivers, xbox audio drivers, updating the controller firmware and more. All in vein - regardless of all these actions, the controller is stuck in the incorrect formatand it can't be changed.





The problem seems to be caused by a driver that is built into windows and cannot be removed/reinstalled USB Audio. It's ended up in an invalid state and won't reset.


Here's some driver info:
- Sound, video and game controllers -> Xbox Controller -> USB Audio Device 10.0.19041.388
- Audio inputs and outputs -> Headphones Xbox Controller -> Audio Endpoint 10.0.19041.1

Can’t connect Xbox one controller to pc
