Windows 10: Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows keeps uninstalling its updates?

For the past few days, whenever I'm trying to connect my elite controller via xbox usb adapter (here's the link to amazon page for reference), the controller does not connect. It worked fine before, and I only began to notice this problem recently.

After trying different ways, I eventually looked under device manager, and there was an exclamation mark under "Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows" driver. I update the driver, the update is successful, and I can now connect the controller.

But now the problem is whenever my computer goes to sleep or reboots, the update gets uninstalled and I see the little exclamation mark again. I try installing the update again, and the same cycle as mentioned above happens.

So now I'm trying to find ways to keep the update.

I appreciate your time and patience to work on this issue. To have a better clarity on the issue please reply to the following questions:

• Are you using an Xbox one controller?
  

If you are using an Xbox one controller, I suggest you to refer the steps in the article

How to connect an Xbox One Wireless Controller to a Windows PC and see if that helps in resolving the issue.



I would also suggest you to uninstall all the hidden devices under USB hive and check if you are able to connect the wireless adapter. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the hidden drivers:

1. Press and hold the Windows + X key on the keyboard.
   
2. Select Device manager.
   
3. Click View tab.
   
4. Select Show hidden devices.
   
5. Expand Universal Serial Bus and remove all the greyed out devices. To remove the greyed out devices, right click on the device and select
   uninstall.
   
6. Restart your computer.
