  1. Xbox wireless adaptor APPCRASH dwm.exe fault module gameinput.dll

I use a xbox series x controller Not the elite connected to my pc via a xbox wireless adaptor. When I am done playing a game, I quit the game and return back to the desktop and then turn of the xbox controller, I get a error in reliability monitor telling me APPCRASH dwm.exe and the faulting module is gameinput.dll. This issue does not happen all the time, but the steps that lead up to the error are always the same, most of the time when I quit a game and turn of the controller its fine no issues, the controller just turns of no problems, but at some random times when I quit a game and turn

DWM (Desktop Window Manager) crashes while gaming

I just found one more thing that supports the theory about Xbox controllers having something to do with it...

Every time the DWM crashes there is a "Critical event" like this in the Reliability Monitor:

    Description

    Faulting Application Path: C:\Windows\System32\dwm.exe

    Problem signature

    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

    Application Name: dwm.exe

    Application Version: 10.0.22621.608

    Application Timestamp: 8783b131

    Fault Module Name: dwmcore.dll

    Fault Module Version: 10.0.22621.900

    Fault Module Timestamp: b419c772

    Exception Code: 8898008d

    Exception Offset: 0000000000122e3e

    OS Version: 10.0.22621.2.0.0.768.101

    Locale ID: 8192

    Additional Information 1: 11e7

    Additional Information 2: 11e7b28e832689b1b585bd341fb00da6

    Additional Information 3: 426b

    Additional Information 4: 426bd720426b8c94b964c43653e9ead6

And for each one of those messages, there is a corresponding "Informational event" that happens every time at exactly the same time, which says:

    Microsoft Gameinput

    Successful application reconfiguration

Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Microsoft GameInput. Product Version: 10.1.22621.1863. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Reconfiguration success or error status: 0.

The DWM crash and the Gameinput reconfiguration seems to have a one-to-one relationship, they always occur together (but cannot tell from the Reliability Monitor which happens first).

    Xbox wireless USB adaptor ACC

Thanks for the reply. The controller itself isn't even part of the issue, it's the UBS wireless adaptor. I just installed the optional driver update (xbox-net 1.0.46.1) and the problem went away. I was looking for the driver and don't want to install an app, (xbox accessories) that I don't need.
