    Apologies, I know this is an Xbox issue but the Xbox community offered zero help. And I am using my windows 10 computer to try and resolve this issue. Plus, there's the Xbox/Win10 overlap, right? RIGHT?

    So, I have a thumb drive I use to capture all my Xbox clips, and it worked fine, creating up to one hour clips as it should. It's a 256GB USB 3.0 SanDisk Ultra.

    However, one day after offloading the files to my computer, I erased all the files on the drive. When I put the drive back in, it was recognized as a different drive. When I tried to set it as capture location, it didn't work. So I took it back to my computer, and I did a quickformat to NTFS. When I plugged it back in, it will let me set it as a capture location. However, after I do this, it still doesn't actually do anything. My record limit is still 2min for 1080p, 30sec 4K, etc.

    So, I tried quick formatting the drive as exfat. The Xbox said no, this has to be an NTFS drive. So i formatted it again as an NTFS drive. The capture location thing didn't work again so I thought, maybe I could just format it for xbox game storage, and then format it back to being a media drive. But when I tell the Xbox to format it for game storage, the drive disappears and it does not come back. Gone, I have to take it back out, bring it back to my PC, and format it AGAIN. I tried using disk utility to let me completely delete the drive volume, but it wouldn't let me do it.

    Finally I did a full format of the thumb drive, NTFS, took several hours. Plugged it in, the new volume name was recognized, but nope. Still will not actually let me record anything longer than 2 minutes. Do I have to go back into disk utility AGAIN and delete the volume? I'm going mad here, this is where I'm at right now.

    reading thumb drives

    I have IE 11 and windows 10. Toshiba Laptop cannot read thumb drive. The usb port recognizes other devices such as pointing wireless etc but the port will not recognize a thumb drive.

    I have a usb thumb drive that is not being read or recognized by my computer. It is listed in devices as unspecified and have done the troubleshooting with no success. The status for this device states "Driver error" and "Needs troubleshooting". As I
    stated, I have tried to troubleshoot but without success.

    I do not want to reformat the drive as I need the information on the device. Is their any way to repair the driver on the usb without losing the information? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I have followed your steps, and still the same issue. The thumb drive was bought at Microcenter along with 128 gig thumb drive that does work on my computer. The system that will not recognize the 256 gig thumb it is new with no data on it, the system will
    not even recognize it to format the thumb drive. I am able to format the thumb drive on my Windows 7 and my friends Windows 10 system, and I did place it back into my system where it still isn't recognized. Device manager does not see the thumb drive or does
    the drive manager on my Windows 10 PRO system. My system has been updated and scanned for errors. I do have the CBS.log files from my scan.
