Windows 10: Xiaomi to sell Windows 10 PCs outside China, starting with India

Xiaomi’s Redmi is best known for affordable smartphones, but the company ventured into the affordable laptop market last year with RedmiBook. Xiaomi’s RedmiBook is a lineup of affordable notebooks powered by Windows 10 and it remains exclusive to the Chinese market for now.

Xiaomi is diversifying its laptop lineup and RedmiBook 13 with a narrow-edge display was recently unveiled in China to take on Huawei MateBook 13.

It appears that Xiaomi will finally begin selling RedmiBook outside China and India could be its first overseas market. According to a new trademark filing in India, Xiaomi may be looking to launch its laptop in the country before expanding its presence to North America and Europe.



Xiaomi has registered a trademark for ‘RedmiBook’ brand in the country and the application was filed last year with the Intellectual Property India, an authority that comes under Ministry of Commerce and Industry. According to the listing, the trademark is valid up to April 2029.

As per usual, we don’t know for sure if RedmiBook will launch in India in 2020 and whether Xiaomi has any plans to expand the lineup to Europe or North America.

Xiaomi’s laptop lineup has mainly consisted of Apple copycats like the Mi Notebook Air, but RedmiBook is a decent and affordable laptop.


RedmiBook 14

In China, Xiaomi currently offers RedmiBook 14 and RedmiBook 13. The RedmiBook 14 packs a 14-inch IPS display with 1080p resolution and thin bezels. The device comes with Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, and it is also offered with 2GB of dedicated memory (Nvidia GeForce MX25).

The price of RedmiBook 14 is CNY 4,000 in China, which translates to $573 in the United States, €510 in Europe, and Rs. 41,000 in India.

On the other hand, RedmiBook 13 features a 13.3-inch full-HD display, powered by 10th generation Intel Core processors and Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics. It also comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM clocked at 2,666MHz and the price is set at CNY 4,199 (roughly $602, €538 and Rs. 43,300).

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X Starts Selling in India

AMD's third Ryzen Threadripper series HEDT processor SKU, the Threadripper 1900X, started selling in India, ahead of its 31st August scheduled availability. Listed on the country's leading online PC hardware store PrimeABGB, the Threadripper 1900X is priced at INR 45,699. While this price roughly converts to USD $715, which is way above the $549 MSRP announced by AMD, it's important to note that in India the retailer margins and taxes on PC hardware tend to be very high. The same retailer, considered by PC enthusiasts in India as having some of the lowest prices, lists the Threadripper 1920X at INR 65,488 ($1,024), and the Threadripper 1950X at INR 82,008 ($1,283).

The PrimeABGB listing also indicates that the 8-core/16-thread Threadripper 1900X features 16 MB of L3 cache, as opposed to 32 MB on the 1920X and 1950X. This could mean that AMD is configuring the two "Summit Ridge" dies on the 1900X in a 2+2+2+2 CCX configuration, with 4 MB of L3 cache per CCX, just like on the Ryzen 5 1400. The chip still features a quad-channel DDR4 memory interface, and 64-lane PCIe. It is priced between the $390 6-core/12-thread Core i7-7800X and $590 i7-7820X.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
