  2. Compatibility Mode

When I had Win 7 Home Premium I ran Windows Frontpage XP in XP compatibility mode.

As I upgraded to Win 10 Frontpage continues to work in compatibility mode, BUT I would like to try run it as an "ordinary" program in Win, so it fires up straight away. How do I remove the compatibility mode attribute from the start up of Frontpage?

  3. Will virtual XP mode work in Windows 10 Pro

Has anyone running 7 Ultimate with Virtual Machine XP Mode upgraded to 10 Pro yet. Will the virtual XP Mode still work? Do the XP programs for the XP mode still run right? I found that some of my Win 7 programs will not run in the Win 10 OS . . .

Xp (or 7) PRO compatibility mode in win 10 HOME

WinXP Mode ran on Win7 as a virtual machine but did require Pro or better.
Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

WinXP Mode was discontinued before Win10 was released.
I think a Virtual Machine would be the way to go. There may be a version available that will run on Win10 Home but I've not had such a need, yet.

XP Mode was a special XP image that would run under VirtualPC installed on Windows 7 Pro or higher. It will not run (at least not legally) on Windows 8 or 10. You can install a virtual machine such as VirtualBox or VMWare on Windows 10 home but you will need a legal copy of XP to install on it.

I think there is some confusion about compatibility modes in Windows 7 and 10.

Windows 7 had XP Mode which essentially ran a fully licensed copy of XP within Windows 7. Compatibility was very good unless access to special hardware was required. This existed only in Windows 7, not in Windows 8 or later.

In Windows 8 or 10 you can run VirtualBox or VMWare and run any operating system you like under that. But you must supply a legal copy of the OS.

All modern versions of Windows have compatibility modes but these are entirely different technology. This merely makes some adjustments within the OS to make it more compatible with older software. This is much simpler and less likewly to work.

There is no compatibility mode that will do that. You would need to install VirtualBox or VMWare and install Windows 7 Pro under that. You would need to supply a legal copy of Windows 7 Pro.

Edit: No compatibility mode in any OS will give you capabilities found only in a higher edition of the OS.

Xp (or 7) PRO compatibility mode in win 10 HOME

    I think i misexpressed myself:

I have a Windows 10 HOME laptop and i want to right click a program and select "properties" and then i can select compatibility mode "Windows 7".

When i try this method on my other laptop (which is running win10PRO) it works!
But when i try it on the above mentioned Windows 10 HOME laptop it doesnt work.

That makes me suspect that the Windows 10 HOME laptop can enable compatibility with Windows 7 HOME
And Windows 10 PRO can enable compatibility with Windows 7 Pro or am i wrong?

That is exactly what you should expect.

The difference between the various editions of Windows is in the features provided. Setting compatibility makes minor changes in the OS that often make it compatible with older software. That is all. It does not enable features found in a higher edition of Windows. The features you will have in compatibility mode are exactly the same as without compatibility mode. If you have a program that requires some feature found in a Pro version of Windows the only solution is to run it on a Pro version of Windows.

    That is correct.

Compatibility mode was never designed as a means of circumventing the limitations of a home version of Windows.
