Windows 10: Yahoo accounts attacked.

Received a warning e-mail from Sky on 23rd Sept with "advise you change your password".

 

I have tried several times to change my SKY password, they promise to send an email with the link, but it never happens.

 

I have considered getting rid of SKY broadband and joining BT but it seems they use Yahoo too.

 

Do you have facts on previous Yahoo incompetence, or just personal opinion ?

 

Before 2013 Yahoo didn't even use https! They were wide open to hacking. Another 'risk' was that allowing mobile devices to log in was enabled by default. Mine was one of the a/cs hacked. having learned the hard way, I turned on the (newly added) https option and disabled Mobile access (the entry route my hacker used).

Since then I've had no further breaches and Yahoo have (finally) got round to using two-part authentication. I'm happy they are (now) as secure as most others, but that certainly wasn't the case until recently.

 

I have just changed my Sky email password, you have to get the link from another account, in my case gmail, pity they neglected to tell anybody that, what a bunch of c---s.
While I was about it, I changed my gmail password too.

 

I have just visited my email page to check the security as advised by Bree, there is a closed padlock, is that it?

 

Yes. A padlock indicate a secure https connection. But there's nothing you need to set or check to get it now. At first https was optional and turned off by default. A few years back Yahoo made it a permeant feature, no need to opt in any more (sounds great, but it only put them in line with what all major email providers had been doing for years).
