Yet Another WiFi Greyed Out Button (YAWGOB)

    Good day everyone,

After Running Windows 10 for over two years and escaping the dreaded WiFi broken/Won't turn on issue that so many others have experienced, I can no longer consider myself lucky. My immunity has run out and I now have this issue on my Windows 10 laptop (old ASUS N53SV w/Atheros WiFi adapter).

I have experienced other fun such as the fall creators update blowing up some of my graphics based applications, only to prolong the re-install long enough for the forced re-application back in April to go without a hitch. I wonder what changed then? Yet Another WiFi Greyed Out Button (YAWGOB) :). I remember prior to this I had a Skype issue where one of the shared DLLs was replaced with an older one causing me to choose between Skype and some other applications. I was able to workaround that with a batch file to re-write the DLL depending on the app I needed to run. Again, magically fixed after the next set of updates were installed.

So now we are in July 2018 and I have read countless postings and tried dozens of the recommendations for fixing this unbelievably annoying, repetitive and simply ridiculous issue. I have been able to confirm that the hardware works through some testing (in a nutshell, removed driver, disabled adapter in BIOS and Windows could not re-install it, re-enabled in BIOS and voila, Windows puts the driver/adapter back). Of course this fixed nothing and I still see the WiFi button greyed out and the oh so familiar message that it is turned off and no networks are available.

I'm not going to list all the different things I have attempted, they are all well documented in many, and I mean many other posts all the way from 2015 to as new as June of 2018 ranging from network reset to registry hacking to drivers. I've also read all postings and subsequently removed any update that was applied in July (except for one which does not even give the option to remove; might be the major cumulative update I think). I may try and see if I can revert to a previous version of Windows 10 although the WiFi was working literally as of one week ago give or take a day.

The only other thing I have not done is to re-install Windows itself and while I hold out hope and am fairly confident that doing so would bring WiFi back to an operational state, I am dumbfounded at how this is in any way shape or form a fix. I liken it to taking a rocket launcher to remove an ant hill. Of course along with that comes the wonderful exercise of re-installing all my applications (only 50 or so. I love how it is marketed that if your Windows is not running 'well' then refresh it).

So my question is, is there anyone else in the same situation now who has yet to find a workaround or has found one in the last couple of weeks? I use the term workaround given that this issue has been around for over 3 years on and off clearly indicating there is no permanent fix.

    Regards,

    Mike.

    :)

WiFi Button Greyed Out !! Capability is OFF.

    Hi Mridu,

Were you able to find solution for this issue?

I have 2-3 years old Dell Inspirion, its was working fine and suddenly wifi dropped. And I have same issue, wifi button is greyed out.

    Things that I have tried:

    1. Drivers- update, uninstall reinstall, drivers from Dell website, from Intel website

    2. Windows rollback to automatically created restore point, which failed.

    3. Some forums suggested VPN registry clean with bunch of command line commands - that didn't work either

    4. Finally did a clean windows installation- and all of above steps, but no luck

    Thanks,

    Mukul

Wifi greyed out on windows 8.1 - help?

Got a weird problem on my new i7 laptop - the wifi option greys itself out after a reboot, and will not re-enable.

Atheros AR5B93 - works fine and gives me 300Mb speeds most of the time.

    Fixes that dont work:

    *Changing drivers
    *Disabling/re-enabling the adaptor
*Toggling airplane mode via physical button/software buttons in control panel/metro settings.
    *updating all windows updates

    Fixes that do work:
    *using USB wifi
*shutting down the PC and booting it up works fine. its ONLY a restart that causes this. sleep mode is also fine.

    Any ideas?

greyed out Print button in file explorer with .htm Extension windows 10

    Hello,

There are options you can consider to troubleshoot this issue. When the
    Print button
on the File Explorer window is greyed out, we suggest that you check if the
Print Spooler service is running. To do this, simply follow the steps below:

    • On the Cortana search box, type Services and click the
      Services app.
    • Scroll down and check if the Print Spooler service is running.
    • If not, right-click Print Spooler and click Properties.
    • On the Properties window, click Start.

After following the steps, check if the Print button
    is already available.

Should you have further questions, feel free to post them on this thread.
