  2. You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia gpu -_-

I have tried to update the driver to the latest version(375.70), install previous versions (which used to work) and completely removing any traces of my Geforce 650M gpu and both installing the latest version and doing the same steps with a previous version.

The card is enabled and visible in the Device Manager and is indeed at the version I had installed.

The Nvidia control panel Says : "NVIDIA Display are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU". However when I plug in an HDMI device (in this case a tv used as a monitor), I can access the nvidia control panel. But for
all other purposes the GPU does not work. My computer is an ASUS N76VZ. Sometimes there also seems to be a display which does not exist.

Thought I should also mention that only my Intel(r) HD Graphics 4000 is displayed in dxdiag

  3. You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia gpu -_-

The NVIDIA GPU error message is displayed when I click on the NVIDIA control panel in the system tray (in other words whenever I try to access the control panel). But, as I mentioned, the error is not displayed when I have my TV(monitor) plugged in my HDMI
slot and only then, since it is the only time my gpu works as it is suppose to.

You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia gpu -_-

I found the root problem.. as I said I got the same problem as you with same laptop model/GPU.

Turns out it needs both the older 2013 Intel HD graphics driver and the older 2013 Nvidia GPU driver, from ASUS, released for this very specific
    laptop model.

So the point is that hybrid graphics (optimus-aka it chooses whether to run Intel HD card for efficiency or Nvidia powerful one) in the way its implemented, isnt included in the modern (latest) Nvidia and Intel drivers, to work with the laptop. (and Intel/Nvidia
driver also work together to let this very laptop-model specific system work seamlessly)

Until today when I managed to solve it by running Asus-provided (much outdated to my disliking) Intel and Nvidia graphics drivers, I standardly believed the OEM's told you for no reason to only get their model-supplied drivers, and by default always got
the latest drivers made for the cards only (like the GT650m on this Asus laptop has a official Nvidia driver thats very recent, it goes along with new driver releases)

This way I realized in unpleasant manner even when I could install and run the recent Intel and Nvidia site drivers, it causes this issue of your whole powerful, dedicated Nvidia GeForce GPU not working at all.

Because running the modern, latest Nvidia/Intel graphics drivers basicly doesnt give other symptoms than in games and heavier applications, (but actually disables the whole Nvidia card) you could easily have believed it ran fine until you wanted to click
Nvidia control panel configuration, or ran a game (although the Intel HD 4000 on this laptop we both have can launch the most recent heavy games, with mediocre to low FPSes) so this also explains why your ''game'' laptop that was not even THAT old, is lagging
in modern games.. the Nvidia GPU is totally not being used, its parked! until you fix it with steps I next describe in this post.

Worst thing: as only Asus official laptop OEM drivers work to make use of the Nvidia powerful GPU, these are very outdated.. Asus doesnt offer updates beyond the 2013 Nvidia geforce M drivers for your laptop Asus N76V. Some games may not run on old drivers
and you ofcourse will run into issues and incompatibility if you are stuck with old graphics drivers for aslong you own this laptop (some games and apps may have trouble even when the videocard tehnically could have ran it, if you had the modern drivers..
aka bound to potential issues forever) For this reason I would never buy a secondhand laptop of a generation suffering from this issue (a Nvidia/OEM design flaw) the hardware may be powerful enough to run even new games but the only drivers that work flawlessly
    aren't keeping up

TL;DR If you want to solve the problem, and make use of the Nvidia GPU again (which now is theoretically completely out of use.. hence it doesnt allow you to open Nvidia control panel and says ''You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia
    gpu'' you should:

    1. download both the Nvidia and Intel official OEM driver for your Asus N76VZ: from Asus driver site ASUS Global or
for anyone reason this the model of their exact laptop they own, forget the N76VZ thing then - also for other laptop brands the same issue and solution may apply - OEM brand drivers

First uninstall both the Intel and Nvidia driver and then make sure to first install the Intel graphics driver and after reboot Nvidia graphics driver.

Don't make the same mistake as me; if you keep a recent or latest Intel driver installed and then install the older Nvidia driver, you will get a black screen after boot with derailed Windows controls/buttons and screen flickering. (related to the integration
of hybrid graphics between), this is hard to solve as also UEFI BIOS Safe mode is hard to launch from that state, so make sure you first completely uninstall both modern Intel and Nvidia driver before installing the outdated Asus laptop drivers from 2013.

After you installed ASUS's supplied graphics drivers for both INTEL and NVIDIA you will see the problem is fixed and your Nvidia control panel works/your powerful Nvidia (gaming) GPU works again.

That you have to live with old laptop model OEM drivers is the problem left but it is how it is.
