  1. You do not have permisson to access \\pcname

OK I've got two desktops on an ethernet home network. I can access the shared folders on pc1 from pc2. I cannot access the shared folders on pc2 from pc1. I have been struggling with this for days. I've searched the web and the community. I've tried everything. Turning on sharing, removing password access, adding everyone as a user, giving everyone full permission, Yet I still cannot access the shared drive and its folders on pc2.When I click on the pc name that is when it happens. I've done everything I can think of and everything I've found about this problem on the internet. Still ca

    Network Share \\PCNAME vs \\PCNAME.local

Thanks, I know about disabling IPv6 and the difference in \\pcname vs \\pcname\share

Sorry, I wasn't clear ... basically I was doing a test and before I saved any credentials ...
If I accessed the PC by \\pcname or the share by \\pcname\share I got the network path not found vs prompt for credentials, but when using \\pcname.local or \\pcname.local\share I would get prompted for credentials. Once I got prompted for credentials, then the \\pcname or \\pcname\share would start working (i.e. prompt me for credentials vs network path not found). That's why I was wondering what the difference is between \\pcname and \\pcname.local

Incorrect Permissons on Windows Search directories

    Hi,

My colleague just gave me a USB Pen Drive to copy some date into, and when trying to access it from Win Explorer, it returns a pop-up error:

    "Location is not available"

    "D:\ is not accessible."

    "Access is denied"

This is now happening with all external
storage devices connected via the only USB port on my Surface Pro 4 (usb mouse and keyboard work fine). Even the micro-SD reader is returning the same error.

A few hours ago it was working fine. I didn't install anything new.

My colleague went back to his PC to access his USB Pen Drive, and now the same error appears on his machine!

Running Troubleshooter returns "Incorrect permissons on Windows Search directories".

cmd admin sfc/scannow doesn't find any errors.

Windows defender is running an Advanced Scan to a USB Pen Drive without issue, so this is a User-related permisson issue only.

How do I change permissons to USB and SD ports?!

    Please help...
