When i try to create a system image in the external hard drive, the message come like ' you have chosen to back up drive C:, which is encrypted. The backup location will not be encrypted. Make sure the backup is kept in a physically secure location. I can't make the backup because it shows an error while completing the task. Please someone suggest me.

Using network hard drive for backup

It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

Download Back Up Tools for Windows - MajorGeeks

and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

  3. Change Backup Location

I'm trying to update my phone, but can't so far because my C drive doesn't have enough space for a backup. My computer is partitioned right now, so is there any way to change the backup location (i.e. to another drive)

    Thanks

How to set a Backup location (Windows XP)?

Hi Greg - It is Windows 7.

The problem is when I attach an external hard drive to use as a backup the device does not come up as a possible backup (if I go through the steps to choose a backup). Nor is it listed as a folder in the Libraries window to drag files into.

I have gone through via Windows help all steps, and yet the drive is still not appearing as a possible Backup location.

    (It is listed in Devices).

If you can explain to me how to set this external hard drive up as a backup I'd be grateful!
