Restart Your PC to Finish Installing Updates

According to the Get Windows 10 app, the download is in progress. When I click view download progress, it takes my to the windows update window where it says "restart your PC to finish installing updates". My computer restarts quickly but then nothing
happens. It just puts me right where I was before, still running windows 8.1.

  3. KB4090913 Needs to Restart To Finish Installing

    Hi Barbara,

When your computer asks you that you need to restart your computer to complete the update, you can resolve this by doing a
Clean Boot. You can visit this link:
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
    for instructions.

If you can’t complete the update and apply the new version, a clean install of
Windows 10 will be your next option. Read this article: How
to Clean Install Windows 10 on a PC Step-by-Step Guide
    made by our
    Article Author – Paul Sey
. Once there, download the Media Creation Tool
and perform a clean install or in-place upgrade.
Insert or mount this .iso image file to your CD Rom drive to start this process. Installing this will also give you the latest version of
Windows 10 is Fall Creators Update Version 1709 - March 5, 2018—KB4090913 (OS Build 16299.251).

In addition, you need to perform the best practices below before you start attempting to update again:

    • Keep at least 30% or
30GB of free space on your hard drive for optimum results.
    • Make sure that your hard drive is not full (With warning message indicated in
      red color).
    • Make sure you are using an Administrator account.
    • Temporarily disable all your anti-virus.
    • Unplug all unnecessary external devices that is not currently in used (External hard disk, webcams, etc.).
    • Have a stable Internet connection.
    • No background applications running.
    • All other programs and applications were closed.
    • If you are using a laptop, make sure that the power adapter is plugin.

For your device issue, here’s what you can do:

    • Visit this link:
Update drivers in Windows 10 to know how to perform a driver update for your devices.
    • Use the Device Manager to detect your computer for hardware changes. To do this, follow the steps below:
    • Press Windows + X.
    • Click Device Manager..
    • In the Device Manager, click your computer so it will be highlighted.
    • Click Action, then click Scan for hardware changes.
    • Wait for your computer to scan the hardware that were attached to it.

After using this method, inform us if your computer keeps on rebooting, if the new updates are keep sending you notifications, or it will still ask you to repeatedly restart your computer.

Give us an update if the result is successful.
