Windows 10: " Your Gmail Settings are out of Date"

I can't seem to get my Gmail account to work with Outlook......it says my settings are out of date, but they are not.......this happened after I changed my Gmail password.... I have tried all of the obvious fixes, but it still won't work......any thoughts appreciated.......Del.

I have had this annoying pop-up on my computer for some time. Why can't it just be turned off? When I go to the "fix" section and log in it tells me that Microsoft wants to take over my email account and gives me two options. One option is "Okay".
The other is not "Leave things alone" or "I'm satisfied with my settings and wish to keep them as is". It simply "Cancel". Clicking "cancel" just sends you back to where you were and doesn't stop the pop-up. Why hasn't this stupid situation been eliminated?
Give me the option of leaving things as they are! I don't want to kill my gmail account and start over. I don't want to go to into this computer and try to change some program. I'm not literate on the ways to do this. What I can't understand is why I have
to "fix" a problem that I didn't cause! Surely Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, can cure this situation. If I am content with the way my computer is set up, why am I being forced to change it?

Mmmhh.......managed to get it working again, by turning ON "less secure apps.".....but this has flagged up a security problem, and is recommending "two step verification"......I shall investigate..........

 

If you have 2-step authentication enabled you may require an app specific password for Outlook.
