Windows 10: Your Phone App - Difficulty with making calls from desktop

I have downloaded the "Your Phone App" on my Dell Inspiron 15 with great expectations of being able to take and make calls directly off my laptop.

My first test call worked beautifully with me being able to hear the recipient clearly over my laptop speakers and him hearing me clearly through the laptop microphone. This was done with my Samsung A5. No problems with this phone.


I then connected our Huawei P smart successfully, being able to access the limited files this app allows, but for some reason, when attempting to make calls off my laptop, I have only 50% success. Success as in being allowed to make the call from the laptop, but I have to speak and listen through the phone. Maybe there is a setting that I have missed which needs to be activated on either my phone or my laptop?


Can someone please enlighten this technology-impaired old man?

Whatsapp desktop - making a chat / call with no contacts

A friend uses Whatsapp from a phone. I'd like to use whatsapp from my desktop or phone to communicate with them.

I have installed whatsapp on my android phone and have connected the desktop. And am leaving the phone turned on, as directed.

I refused to permit Whatsapp to read my contacts, etc.. I'm not a big facebook fan and know that they share everything everywhere and sell it everywhere.

However, I cannot figure a way to make or even receive a call using whatsapp without using my contacts list.
Is this true or is there something I'm missing. On the desktop app I put in a phone number and it wants to search my contacts, which of course it does not have. After using "Create Group" same thing.

No way to make a call at all with whatsapp if you don't share your contacts with it?

if so, Whatsapp is completely broken for me.

And if so that's fine since I can use Skype or Discord just fine.

Your Phone App: Ringtone and Call quality terrible?

Windows 10 version: 1909 (Build: 18363.815)
Your Phone App version: 1.20041.85.0
Your Phone Companion Link to Windows app version: 1.20041.82.0
Link to Windows Service version: 1.0.5.2.30

Samsung Galaxy S10: Android 10 / OneUI 2.1

It worked fine using my Surface Pro 4 but on my new Surface Pro X the Ringtone and Call Quality through the Your Phone app are terrible: Constant crackling, tapping whatever you want to call it. Kind of like coins being dropped.

All other aspects of Your Phone work wonderfully.

I've tried:

Phone:

1. Bluetooth: Unpairing the Surface Pro X
2. Your Phone Companion App: Clearing Application Data/Cache

Surface Pro X:

1. Settings -> Bluetooth: Unpairing the phone
2. Settings -> Phone: Unlinking the phone
3. Settings -> Apps: Your Phone App: Repair and Reset

I then set it all up again which went through all fine.

I've also tried:

1. Device Manager -> All Bluetooth Drivers -> Update Driver
2. Paired a Bluetooth speaker to my Surface Pro X. This works fine.

I suspect the issue is related to the Your Phone App and Bluetooth but don't know where to check next?

Because the crackling noise seems to be bluetooth related.
