Windows 10: "Your Phone" default app has stopped connecting

Hey all


I had a problem today where when I use the "Link to Windows" feature on my Samsung Note 10+ and use the "Your Phone" app on Windows 10, the PC and phone did not communicate properly. all fields said at the top of each page "last updated 9/18/2020" which obviously was awhile ago. At the top of the "Your Phone" app was a message saying there was a problem with my microsoft account, so when I went into that page, it was displaying my University account, so naturally I tried to log into it. Doing so just repeatedly brought me back to the login page and windows refused to access my school's server. With that I thought I'd use a dfferent account the account I'm making this post on as well as the one linked to my PC and phone, but the page said I could not login to personal accounts. Trying to login to my University account on my phone resulted in the inverse problem.


With that, I decided to reset the app in both devices, but doing so lead to more confusion. When I try to set up the phone, it gets stuck on the page titled "check your PC" while on my windows machine, it gets stuck on the page titled "Please open Your Phone Companion" with a progress bar at the top always displaying 60%. I run each devices respective program indepentently and get stuck on the same page. I assumed that this was an error in the bluetooth settings which brought up more problems


When trying to connect, my PC recognizes and says "connected" when connecting to my phone while the phone displays "can't connect." Both devices can see each other and both display the same authentication code


All that said, I seem to be stuck where I'm at. If anyone has any idea on how I can get the program working again, I'd love to hear your input and questions

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

Your list confirms my phone is eligible, Lumia 521. The windows Insider App fails after ~ 15 seconds, restores data and gives me error 80073cf9. I trouble shot this and went thru all the steps mentioned on several websites including MS without any luck. Short of a hard reset, this is where I am now. Suggestions appreciated.
