Windows 10: Zipping and unzipping a folder

In Windows 11, when you zip a folder, the unzipped folder remains. Likewise, when you unzip a folder, the zipped folder remains. This, then, always requires extra steps since I only want the folder to be zipped or unzipped but not both. And as historical reference, PDZIP allowed the automatic removal of folders. Is there a way to do this in Windows 11?

you might face such issues if the file is zipped.

I suggest you to unzip the file and check.

To do so follow the steps below.

Open File Explorer and find the zipped folder.

• To unzip the entire folder, right-click (or press and hold) it, select
  Extract All, then follow the instructions.
• To unzip a single file or folder, double-click the zipped folder to open it. Then, drag or copy the item from the zipped folder to a new location.

• Which tool are you using to unzip the files?
  
• Did you try to unzip the files on a different computer?
  
• Does this happen only with a particular zip file?
  
• Have you tested with zip files (or other files) of smaller sizes?
  

There are several reasons which can cause this issue, here are a few of them.

• If the compressed files are infected.
  
• The slow download rate and poor internet connection can corrupt the download.
  
• If there is a problem with the tool used to zip/unzip the files.
  
• The downloaded file is originally corrupted.
  
  Try with unzipping a different compressed file/folder (of smaller size) and see if it works.
  

Re-download the folder to ensure that the folder downloaded earlier is not corrupted.

If it does not work, try with unzipping the folder on a different machine.

If the issue persists, try with a different tool to unzip the files.

Windows zip and unzip app download

To restore your default Windows zip and unzip app, you can follow these steps:

• Check for File Explorer: Right-click on a zipped file, select ‘Properties’, then ‘Open with’. See if File Explorer is listed.
  
• Reinstall Default App: If File Explorer is missing, you can reinstall it through Windows Settings or use the ‘Apps & features’ option.
  
  Remember, the default zip and unzip functionality is built into Windows File Explorer, so it should be available unless it’s been replaced by another application. If you’ve installed a third-party zip app, it might have taken over the association for zip files.
